I have a 96 z24 and when i turn my wheel to the left it makes a rubbing, grinding like noise. Its fine when I drive strait or turn right. It does not make the noise at low speeds. Only above 40 and its louder at 80 only when turning left.
Now I did a search and read allot on wheel bearings, and hubs and stuff. But what i want to know is, how to perform the proper tests to determine what it might me. Any info will help.

It sounds to me like your left side front wheel bearing hub is making the noise. To test it, jack up the front end and spin each wheel (in neutral) - you should hear a noticeable difference between your left and right wheels. To see if your wheel bearings are loose, simply wiggle the tire to see if there is any play.
Note: On the Z24's with the 2.4 motor the left side wheel bearing hub is always the first to go because it is on the same side as your powertrain.
I have a 99 Z24 with 296 000 km and the only front end parts I have replaced are the left side wheel bearing hub (twice), struts and strut mounts(both sides).
Best of luck.
Thanx Andrew. Jacked up the car but there is no play. How hard is it to change the assembly? What size tools do i need?

It takes about an hour with the proper tools. If you can do a front brake job, you can change a wheel bearing hub. You have to unbolt the calibre and remove the brake rotor. It has been awhile, but I think you need torx sockets (probably metric) and a large socket to get the centre wheel nut off (not sure what size). A few good hammer taps from the inside of the wheel bearing outward after all the bolts/nuts are removed should free the old hub. When you install the new hub, torque the centre bolt to 140 ft lbs.
Should I have left out any details, perhaps someone else can fill in the blanks.
Anyone know the size of the socket i need for the center bolt?
