Trac off, ABS light, andService light on but NO CODES?
Thursday, March 01, 2007 2:27 PM
Ok so as stated, the Trac OFF, ABS and Service lights are on, but there are no codes thrown (I've got a code reader). Any idea what the deal is?

my sunfire did this about a year ago and it ended being the computer pcm putting itself in safe mode, my headlight wiring harness frying and my cooling fan realy blowing. i don't remember the abs light being on though i did have the service engine and trac off light come on.

When I had my Grand Am GT, the same thing happened. I was told that the abs sensor what mucked up and if I cleaned it up it wouldn't do that anymore... I traded the car before I bothered to clean it, but it doesn't cost anything to clean...

and mine wasn't producing any codes as well.

OK, this will be my 2341677264 time I explain this and I will never get tired...
I had this same problem on my 2003 cavalier sometime ago, the problem is one of your 4 ABS sensors is either disconnected, broken or malfunctioning, send it to the dealer so they can check each one of them, if you still under warranty ( like I was ) you will save a lot of $$$ they are like $120 for the front ones and more for the rear ones....hope this helps

The trouble is in the front sensor(s), which is why the TRAC OFF light came on with the ABS light. The SERVICE light came on telling you to get it fixed. Since this is ABS a regular code reader will not read the codes. You can check the sensors with an ohm meter. Also you check the sensors with a volt meter and see if you get AC voltage while spinning the wheel. I usually find that moisture gets in the sensor plug and just blow drying it fixes the problem. Hope this helps.

I have a similar problem with my car but my trac light isn't on does that mean the problem is possibly with a rear sensor?

it's the trac off, ABS and service light, not the brake light.

Anyone with a part number???

abs trouble codes are tied in with the obd 2 system you don't have to have a seperate scan tool. pin 12 on the DLC gives the information from the abs. don't post wrong info. you are right saying you can test it with an ohmmeter.

No your wrong, generic code readers only read power train information, not chassis info. Just be cause you pull codes from the OBDII connector does not mean they are part of the ODBII federally mandated emission system.

ok guys...please no fighting, weither or not you can get ABS codes with a hand scanner isn't what this thread is trying to accomplish.

TGFX the sensors in the front are right behind the rotor, it's a small plastic funny shaped piece with wires pluged into it and it's right above the grooved marks on the axle/hub...that much I know,

what I would LIKE to know..is the part number so I can look for them online and not have to pay the dealer 4x as much as I need to!

Thanks for the help (and please stop fighting...we are all supposed to be here for the same reason...if someone is wrong, go about it nicely, no need to be rude, thanks!)

I found a part number = 22591938

Question is, are the sensors in both sides of the car the same? or are they Left and Right specific?

Thanks!

no, but set the meter to ac voltage and spind the wheels the faster they spin the higher the voltage should average.

take the car to a shop and have them put the sensors on there lab scope they will tell you which ones bad, thats the most accurate way to test wheel speed sensors.

he never stated that he has generic scan tool which you are right won't read body control module codes, sorry i jumped the gun, but i have seen and used scan tools that read all DTC's. again sorry, you didn't post wrong info,i did.

you can still do it yourself with an ohmmeter it just more accurate with a lab scope. disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector. touch the probes of the ohmmeter to the pins in the connector on the wheel speed sensor. you should get a reading of 1-5 ohms. if you get a reading of 0 ohms or OL there is an open in the sensor and its bad. if you get a reading 4 or higher i would replace them. but thats just me. that should clear thing up for you. goodluck

This link:-

http://catalog.oehq.com

has 22591938 for Left Hand and 22591939 for Right Hand, so they do seem to be "handed".

Also gives AC Delco part numbers which are "handed"
