Grinding noise while driving

Hi,

About a week ago, I was driving and all of a sudden I could hear/feel a really bad grinding noise from the rear. I thought maybe a blown tire or fallen muffler. I inspected the car - everything seemed fine. I got back in the car and still heard the noise. I did three point turn and the noise went away. I assumed a piece of ice got into the rear wheel well and reversing losened it. Everything was fine till today when again, I was driving about 50kms when the grinding noise all of sudden started again. It felt like there was a drag on the car from the rear. I reveresed a few times and the noise went away. Any ideas what could be causing this? It sounds like it is coming from the rear tires/ drum brakes. The car is an 03 Z24 with 92000kms.

Thanks,
Adam

It does sound brake-related, since the rear drums calibrate when you reverse. Try messing around with the e-brake next time it happens. If the applying or releasing the rear drums has an effect on the noise, that would be a good place to look for problems. Otherwise, another possibility that comes to mind is a wheel bearing going bad.
