I blew the head gasket on my 2000 cavalier and I have taken everything off the top of the engine except the fuel rail. I have the plastic clip used to take the fuel line off, but i can't get it to slide under and release the spring that holds the fuel lines together. Anyone know how to remove the fuel line??
It can be tricky. First make sure that the 2 parts of the lines can be turned and moved slightly in and out. To make sure the internal lock clip is not stuck. Also use a spray can of some type of cleaner with a straw nozzle to spray into the fitting to remove any built up dirt and grit that may be blocking the clip from releasing. Now while turning, twisting and wiggling the connection, turn and twist the release tool into the fitting - the two sections of line must be pressing together at the same time (like you are connecting the lines - as this helps make sure the lock clip is not stuck on the retainer ring.)
Sometimes they can be very hard to get off, and sometimes more than 2 hands are required to get all the actions together of squeesing and turning the lines, at the same time as turning and pressing in the release tool.
Good Luck.
push them together as you try to slide the tool in there. also move the tool left and right until it slides in the pull the lines apart. and make sure you have the right size!
