front brake pad's to big?

hey, i just went to a shop today, and bought everthing to do my brakes all over. new shoes in the back and drums, and rotor's and pads for the front, All done the back and everything worked fine. went to do the front, put the rotor on and the pads in place, but the pads won't fit down over the rotor. I put the old and the new rotor together and looks the same size. Is it possible to get to big of brake shoes. I looked at my slip from the dealer, and it does say the part's to be for a 2002 Pontiac sunfire.
Mine is a 2000 Pontiac sunfire 2.2.
Everything is stock.
Thanks for your help

are you sure the piston in the caliper was fully compressed? sometimes it can look like it is, but it may need to go another millimeter in and that can make all the difference.

hey, i put a c-clamp on it, and had a bar on it trying to turn it in, wouldn't budge a bit, any idea how to get this in more? any hint's. even tryed to take the caliper right off the car to get it pushed in thought maybe the pressure was doing it. no idea?

Take off the brake fluid cap when you compress the caliper piston. After you compress it fully, put it back on, put the pads on, then press the brakes fully until they tighten up once again.

No, look here.

Loosen the bleeder screw, that will compress the piston.

Bleeding brakes is very easy, and you need to bleed the wheels for which you opened the bleeder screws.

Wow I never heard of the front pads not going on to easy with new rotors, I just did my front brake just on 01 cavalier New rotors and pads, They went togther with no problems. I would get so Lube spray like WD40 spray it on the caliper cyl, And push the piston with a C clamp, It should work.

If you compress the piston with my method, you don't need to bleed your brakes, like you do when you unscrew the bleeder screw.
