Hello everyone. I am new to Cavaliers and will be getting my friends 97 Cavalier soon. It's a 2.2L.
Ok so I am new to Cavaliers but not forums so I did search and found some good answers but still just a little confused and looking for help.
The situation is that the car doesn't start. Now at first we thought it was the starter since interior lights came on but starter wouldnt turn over so we changed the starter last night and still same thing starter will not turn over. So while reading through the stuff I pulled up doing the search I see it could be the Anti Theft or possibly ignition switch. I read the information on how to check to see if its the ignition switch. But my main confusion I guess is the Anti Theft. If it is triggered does the Anti Theft blink because what I read it says it will blink but his Anti Theft light just stays on constant. Also if Anti Theft would it still crank but only for a second then cut off or would it possibly prevent the starter from even turning over.
And I read somewhere that someone bypassed the ignition by putting on a push button start and that helped them by pass the Anti Theft so was no longer an issue. I was wondering if anyone had info on this I did this on an older vehicle before but was pre-electronic stuff so was wondering if same concept or not.
Any info will be great and thanks in advance.

Thanks I looked around and alot of people say the Theft light would flash well his isnt flashing and wasnt sure if anti theft would cause starter from turning over or not.. My friends 02 Malibu had anti theft trigeer and would try to turn over but wouldnt actaully start so thats why I am asking..
looking more like may be ignition switch has gone out..
Hope someone can help with some more insight.
It should still turn over i.e. crank.
Is it automatic transmission or manual?
Do the interior lights dim when the car is cranking?
Does the engine crank at all?
Post back and someone here is sure to help, maybe even me

Just because lights will turn on doesn't mean the battery has enough power
to energize the starter and turn-over the engine...
Batteries fail slowly, medium-fast,and _____________________(fill in the blank)..
Battery is new and the lights dont dim just turn the key and nothing.. think it may be the ignition switch is gone out on it.
