ok, heres the problem
a few days ago, driving on the expressway to work, check gauges light came on and my temp gauge was in the red
im in chicago, and its been about 25 degrees or so, maybe colder in the morning
got to work, parked, checked the hood, and some coolant was coming out of the cap
got the car home
changed my thermostat, got a new radiator cap, and topped off my fluid with about a 70/30 mix
i should have flushed my system, but i was lazy and didnt
started the car, let it heat up, drove around, everything seemed fine
temp was in a normal postion, heater was blowing hot, everything was all good
on the way home tonight, temp is normal in stop and go traffic, but when i get on the expressway, the temp gauge drops pretty low, just below the 'normal operating range'
still have heat, but its not as hot as before
its still pretty cold, but before i worked on it, it would run hotter
any suggestions?
i tried to get the air out of the system, but maybe i didnt do it right
its a 1998 cav, 2.2, auto, 96,000 miles
First I would do this, Open the hood pop off youre reisovior cap, Turn the heater on to hot heat, Turn fan on high, Allow the car to heat up to normal operation temp, That method should allow all the air to be removed from the cooling system. Now it that doesnt correct it, You will need to see if the fan kicks on? If not you got a problem with the fan relay, It may need replacing. If that area checks out good, You might need to replace you temperature sending unit. Could have craped out. I would also recomend getting youre cooling system flushed, Its helps.
Good Luck.
thanks
gonna be driving on the expressway again this morning
hopefully everything is all good, and some hot heat would be nice
can it run too cold?
i guess its better to underheat, than overheati suppose.....
wish me luck

How is a bad fan going to cause the temp to be LOW??
FU Tuning
The system needs to be burped with bleed valve in the heater return tube, or at the block. Run it until warmed up, shut it down, slowly open the bleed valve until fluid comes out, re-tighten, run engine 5 minutes lightly rev it a few times, shut it down, burp it, repeat until air doesn't come out of the bleed valve.
roger that
gonna do that and ill get back
