Just to get whoever can help me out up to speed...

I am working on putting Power Windows, Locks, Mirrors and Keyless Entry into my 1996 4door Sunfire. All the parts came from a 1996 4door Cavalier.

My first question asked was about the Keyless entry system;

The way I want to install the power package into the car is as a "addin" not replace the whole harness.

So I have stripped out everything not needed in the wiring harness and that leaves me with 6 wires.

Green Plug
Brown Wire - Which is the Main Power Wire for the Power Windows.

Black Plug
Yellow - Goes to the Keyfob Black Box in the Trunk
Orange/Black - goes to the Keyfob Black Box in the Trunk
1st Orange - for the mirrors I think as well as?
Gray - ?
2nd Orange - for the locks I think as well as?

I was working on the car yesterday for a bit and I wish I wrote it down, so I may not remember it 100% for this next part.

So I looked at the two plugs on the car I am going to put it and most of the wires were there already.

I can just insert the brown wire into the green plug for the Windows and install the fuse and that should be fine.

But with the Main Black plug I have a question or two.

1. Most of the wires are there already. Why?
- Yellow wire that goes to the Black Box (which the car does not have yet).
- My guess is that this is Switched Power? and something else uses it, which is why its there. So I can just tap into it and everything is cool?

- Orange/Black that goes to the Black Box (which the car does not have yet).
- My guess is that this is Constant Power? and something else uses it, which is why its there So I can just tap into it and everything is fine?

- 1st Orange
- Again Power and I can just tap into it? (Mirrors and ???)

- Gray
- No Clue, I have rewrapped the power package wiring harness and forget where this one went to.

- 2nd Orange
- Yet another power. This one I do not think is there on the car its going in, so just insert and add fuse? (Locks and ???)


Also There is a White/Black wire coming from the Keyfob Black box that I forget what it was for. Its the one I labeled with a ? in the picture. The other ones with labels are the Trunk Popper (same colours as the one I do not know what its for) and the Door Switches.




Can anyone help me out?

Also does anyone have/know the Pinout for these two plugs?

is tthat the BCM ??

there shiould be a grey wire for the passlock flash (not actual passlock but the 'theft' light)

black/white, trunk release

orange should be courtesy lamp supply voltage

green, DRL Flash

another orange is hte constant 12v

Give me some more info on all the wires you kept on the box and ill beable to check out the gm manual

I do not know if that is the BCM. I saw a post when I was searching and someone said that the BCM is in the Cluster???

This thing mounts to the Drivers side Rear Fender Well in the Trunk and only comes with j's that have the power package (so makes me think that this is not the BCM).

All the Wires would still get connected but the Door Switch wire that you can see cut in the picture.

Yes one of the Black/White Wires is for the Trunk Release but this other one I am not sure about. The one I am not sure about has Two wires(of the same color) on the connect in my picture labeled " ? ". But I was doing another search about the power locks and I think that is labeled as a "Program Connector" or something in the schematic I found.

If the Manual has a Schematic for the Harness plugs, could you scan that for me? or find out more about the Gray Wire and what it connects too?

All the other wires I think are power ones, so I should be able to just tap into them and everything would be ok.

I did the opposite a few years ago with my 99... removed the keyless entry module and hacked off all the rest of the harness....

I've got a GM Service DVD with all the schematics for 98 and 99... which are pretty similar to the 96. I'll try and siphon off what you need... unless you have specific questions that I can answer

Short form...

1. What is the Yellow wire for?
2. What is the Orange/Black Wire for?
3. What are the 2 Orange Wires for? One is a larger AWG size then the other. Just say one is 16AWG and the other is 18AWG.
4. What is the Gray Wire for?

5. The connector with Two Black/White Wires hooked into it, does this connect to anything and what is it? This is not the Trunk Release wire but yes it is the same colour.

Well I went ahead and installed it and got the Mirrors, locks, windows working. The Keyfob on the other hand is not working yet. But I am hoping that its just a dead battery.

Just in case someone else does this. Here are the wires you will need to hookup...

1. Yellow wire
- Power Wire for the Keyfob Black box (Tap into the wire thats there)

2. Orange/Black Wire
- Still not to sure what this one is for but it could be the Switched Power for the Black Box??? (Tap into the wire thats there)

3.1st Orange Wire
- Mirrors Power Wire (Tap into the wire thats there)

4. 2nd Bigger Orange Wire
- Locks Power Wire (Just plug into the empty shot)

5. Gray Wire
- This is the Window Switches backlights power wire (Tap into the wire thats there)

6. Brown Wire on the smaller Plug
- Windows Power Wire (Just plug into the empty shot and install the 30A Breaker in the Fuse Panel)
