ok my engine has a spun bearing and a buddy of mine has one in his garage that says it has 30000 miles on it
i pulled the oil pan off no shavings or anything like that i rolled it over with a breaker bar and the crank and stuff was acting right but the timing chain or something is like binding up or something how do i check that
is the only way to check it is to pull the cover off and look and see where it is popping is there anyway to see if there is anything wrong with this motor without it being in a car
and before someone asks the guy said that the engine was left in his garage and he doesnt know anything about it and cant contact the guy
Robert, there would be a multitude of questions about
this engine.
To get answers, putting the engine on a repair stand with
a hydraulic lift would give some quick answers because
you could more easily open it up and "explore".
If it still has the starter installed, you could even spin it
with a borrowed battery, check compression, etc..
Understood, you need lots of answers before you deem
worthwhile for installing it in a car.
My suggestion is simply "step one".
The crank should not turn with even effort, every half turn should be much harder than the next as you open and close the valves.
It would be easier to turn the engine over if you remove the plugs.

Did you pull the crank and rod bearing out and look for scaring?

Assume the engine is junk and would need extensive rebuilding when you make an offer. It will cost $500 in parts and another $500 in machining costs to rebuilt a damaged engine (If it's rebuildable and quite damaged).
