HI , I need some ideas to troubleshoot this problem . Gauge will go to full reading when the car is started then settle back to just under an 1/8 . The gauge reads from about the 1/8 mark to empty and thats all. Any help will be great. I've only owned the car for a couple months so I don't know the history of the fuel gauge. Thanks Rob
Disconnect the fuel pump sender. If the gauge goes to full, than you know the cluster itself is okay and most likely the sender or wiring is bad.

I would guess youre sending unit inside the tank is getting close to be wonrout. Its common problem, My 85 skylark 2.8L had the same problem. I bought one of those aftermarket fuel gauges, Had the same problem, Then I replaced the sending unit in sinde the tank, It corrected the problem.
