im replacing mine so i figured might as well free up the exhaust a bit if i can, is one better then the other and what inlet and outlet size should i get ? I'll be welding it in.
i see some magnaflows on ebay, and im guessing they're pretty much the same as the other but id like to know what size to get. this is for a 2001 5spd

i like the flow monster it looks cool spun cat some what cheap
The internals are still the same.
Regulations set by the EPA and the CARB require that you replace the cat with the same one that came on the car.

REPLACE WITH SAME ONE?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!! Oh, come on! I wasn't gonna put junk back on! As long as the replacement CAT is CARB legal, you gonna be OK. I looked through both OE CAT and my high-flow when they were both off. Almost no daylight through OE, and diffuse light through the high-flow.
flow monster? where do i get that one? I see alot of the magnaflows on ebay, which inlet/outlet size do i want ? I have a 2001 and i just ordered the pacesetter header w/ downpipe. looking to put them both on the same day. welding them on.

No such thing as a "high flow cat", just different diameters, and brands.

Probably too dumb to understand that the OE cat was dirty while the replacement was new. high flow cat = BS.

OK, for MFK's sake I need to expand with a few boring details. I DO know what a CAT does, and that it does not involve the leaving of residue behind. It's supposed to simply catalize undesireable emmisions into hamless substances. Also, we used a brand-new generic CAT to compare the OE with. Light penetration was only slightly better, and the high flow was still far better. Granted, a high flow CAT is not a vast improvement as far as exhaust flow, however it is better in letting it get out the tailpipe easier. Our engines still need some backpressure to preform well, and this is still helped done by having a CAT.
Just pick up any eBay 1-7/8" or 2" (for a stock exhaust) for $15 and call it good. They're all the same.
I picked up a "racing" "high-flow" stainless steel one for my exhaust for $25 shipped. Works great.
I'm aware its not really gonna flow more, but its cheaper then getting an oem one at autozone. thats the reason i wanted one.

Okay.... I have purchased in the past 2 "high flow cat's" The ones that i use and LOVE and know work are the random technology 900000 series cat. It has a honeycomb shape and guaranteed for life pretty much. The cat can not break down like a conventional cat and nothing can destroy its internals other than physical abuse.
I also have purchased a 25 dollar ebay cat "high flow" that was my first cat. not only did i not notice a difference in my ass dyno but the thing shattered on me within 2 months and the car ran like DOOKIE!!! then i bought the random technology cat. That cat ran me 275 new.
You will pay dearly for it but it keeps the car street legal in every state other than CALIF. and is guaranteed to flow 600 whp in a 2.5" size unrestricted.
Random Tech all the way!
Oh and i dropped 2 tenths from the ebay cat to the random tech. cat. at NEDragway
Good luck!
Magnaflow has the Calif. OBDII cat. 46000 series.
got it. thanks

yeah the only diff. between a "high flow" and a normal cat is the size of the honeycomb on the inside of the cat. Bigger holes... thats it lol.
