cleaning intake manifold and the like

Greetings ... can anyone recommend a method of cleaning / maintaining the upper chambers of the engine ( more specifically the area after the air cleaner and the intake valves). I don't want to spray anything down that may damage any of the components. 1993 Sunbird 2.0L MPFI. Thanks to all in advance, regards ... Irv

911 ... got fire?

Throttle Body cleaner, sold in aerosol cans at most major auto parts stores, in the chemicals section, typically next to Carb Cleaner, but don't confuse the two, they are not the same.

Follow the directions on the can, spraying the contents into the TB while working the butterfly plate (throttle), being careful not to "flood" the intake and kill the engine. Little short bursts at a time.

By cleaning the TB in this manner, it inherently helps to clean the intake manifold runners and the valves.

You may also want to look into SeaFoam. I don't like to use it, but many have had success with it and swear by it, so it's worth considering.
