I don't know whether I'm smelling someone else's coolant during driving (that time of year for typical failure), or it's mine. My '96 2.2 was serviced at 100K miles with a flush and fill of Dexcool and new water pump new hoses, got 187K miles on it now, new radiator last year due to plastic connection failure, only had Dexcool in it, so far no missing coolant. How long might it take me to replace the core? I'm a moderate wrencher. If there is a leak, would a stop-leak product hold me over til spring? How would the Dexcool react to the stop-leak?
Is their any coolant leaking in the engine area?. If its the heater core, Its not to hard of a job, just got to give youreself a little bit of time, I know the heater core hoses are the pain in the A**, getting the old ones off. I think the heater core is the problem, Could have small pin hole in one of the core channels, Well you could use stop leak stuff, I dont know how long with will last. I hope things work out for ya.
Good Luck.
Nah, no coolant in the engine bay. Only component not serviced is the heater core. As for the hoses, I've dealt with tough ones before. My only concern is how will Dexcool mix with any leak-stop substance, since Dexcool is one finicky liquid. My worse case scenario is that there is a pin hole somewhere and the core will have to go. Just wanna know how long cores last. I'm guessing 187K+ miles is about the limit!
I am pretty sure the stop leak stuff wont have any effect to youre dexcool coolant, green coolant has different formats qualitys, I know stop leak is just temp time buyer. Also to be 100% for sure you could call the companys question line, They would tell you. Ive seen a few guys at work use it. It work, time line not to sure.
Good Luck
