97 gt fire standard. When I get on it a little, mabye 3900 and up, I go to shift and as soon as I let the clutch in and get the thing in neutral, I hear a scraping type sound coming from around the housing area (pass. side)
Doesn't sound metallic at all.
Only last about 2 sec. at the most.
Seems to always match with the engine speed ( as the rpms drop, the sound slows down with it.
Started to happen out of nowhere.
I think I may have broken the timing guide or the chain may be stretched a little and slapping against the housing or something. ---140xxx miles
Strange thing is is that it will only happen when the engine gets to Normal operating temp. After it sits there for a while it will start this everytime I carry remotely high in rpms. I also thought that It might be exhaust(badly clogged exhaust here) but it sounds more in the bay then down in the piping. And no I don't have a header on my car.
engine lean rubbin something at the high torque? mount shot? dont hear that on mine i got the same ride. i noticem i have a substantial amount of play in my mounts maybe ill hear your noise soon? lol
I'm thinking that when I let off the gas the turbulance causes the chain the rub, or something like that. I'm fixing to buy some air tools and when I do I'll probably get in there and look at the chain and see whats up.
I have the lower mount and the insert for my car. both been in for about 4,000 then this started.
car still runs well. mabye a small bit of power loss but the butt dyno sucks butt so idk
if it was chain slag it would sound like tapping and it would be a metal on metal sound. i dont think thats it also getting at the chain is a pain in the ass bro. and if it has nething to do with the chain it would be the nylon tensors r shot.
Mabye I'm just parinoid that it's the chain itself. My cat is really clogged up and I smell it as soon as the car gets hot. I even have some pieces in the muffler so everytime I shut the car off it makes that "penny in a glass jar" type of a sound haha. So It might be some exhaust gases getting shoved around in a strange way or something like that.
Just sucks cause all I need is a wideband and some piping and I'll have myself a complete turbo system ready to be installed.... but then this nuience starts. I'm baffled really.
cut the cat off with a sawzall and pop the center @!#$ out so it stops blowing bb's into ur exhause it will un clog it as well and then get 2 peaces of 4 inch flared pip and clamp it back on easy fix
no point gettin it now until he gets the turbo in i figure right it till he has the turbo ready to go in.
