Alright, so I don't know where to turn for help. So hopefully someone here has an idea.
My girlfriends car is a 97 Sunfire with a 2.2 in it. She's been having starting problems for the past month or so. Somewhere along the line she was told it was a problem with her wires. I suggested changing the ignition coils/wires/plugs today. She didn't have the money for all three, so I replaced the plugs and wires. I also put a can of seafoam in the gas this afternoon. The car ran fine with the seafoam in it this afternoon. I changed the plugs and wires, and when I went to start it, it cranked. But it made a squealing sound and clunking. I've since went back, triple checked the firing/plug order. The plugs do have some oil on them, but I figured that's just blow-by as the car has 125,000 on it. I did get the car running, but it ran VERY VERY rough (To the point it is undrivable) and felt like it was missing. Again, I've checked and rechecked the plugs and order. The plugs are still in one piece too.
I'm lost. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks if you can help at all!
Anthony
Anthony, if I understand the situation, things got bad when you
changed the plugs and ignition wires, you double checked
your work and there is no apparent reason for this to be
happening.
If you still have the old plugs and wires, I'd suggest re-installing
the old wires first. If this doesn't work, then re-installing the old
plugs.
Here's hoping you are just faced with some defective new
parts. (It sure sounds like crossed ignition wires, however.)
