I have a 95 cavalier 2.2 and I am trying to remove the fuel filter I did'nt have any problem with the bolt on side but what is the trick to remove the side with the clips? mine does'nt have any of the plastic surrounding it the clips are inside Thanks
he said that he doesn't have the plastic clip on the outside , which means those instructions won't work.
when you don't have the plastic clip on the outside , the fuel filter is a real bitch to get off. If it is the same as my '97 z24, the fuel filter tool will be too large to fit and it has to be ground down on a bench grinder. But instead of grinding it down , I would just cut off the filter using some bolt cutters and then you will have enough room to remove the piece that is locked in the fuel line with the tool.
you know for everytime if been underneath the back of my car I never noticed the fuel filter. I will have to pay close attention next time i crawl under there when im working on the car
Like to add some helpful information to the fuel filter removal.
Yes the aftermarket fuel filters contain a clip that the OEM ones do not. Solution? Simply remove the clip...do not break it just be gentle with it.
Now grab you a 21mm stubby wrench and a 17mm stubby wrench. Crawl under the car and look by your EVAP Canister. Above it you will notice a container in the shape of a cylinder with a little green clip. Just released the clip and push it back with one of the wrenches. And pull the old filter out. And just break the other end loose with the wrenches. Install new fuel filter and you are done.
Now I just wish getting my damn car started was so simple.
Not a Z24 owner currently researching about the car.
