distributor will not work

I have replaced my 96 2.2 motor with one from a junkyard (97 sunfire vs cavalier). The distributor on the replacement motor would not fire with the original computer. When i used the distributor off the originial motor it ran fine. Is this normal? and so should i change other sensors to the originial.
Thanks
Bob

Are you 100% positive it was from a '97 ?

Check the build date on the donor car, if unsure.

The first thing to come to mind is that you replaced a 2.2 with a ('98 + ) 2200 engine. While very similar, it is possible that the minor differences could account for the issue you're having. Even that would be unlikely, but plausible.

And could you be more specific when you say distributor/ignition module ? Are you actually talking about coil packs?

WHile all of that would be nice to know in finding out why you're experiencing problems, it's not mandtory since you have found a workaround and (I'm assuming) you have the car running fine now. In short, unless you have additional issues, there should not be a need to swap sensors.

Good luck.

It is fact the coil packs that would not work. The computer is a 96 and the motor is a 97 sunfire. When i put the 96 coil pack back on it will fire up and runs. But it has a low speed miss. I am thinking a sensor on the 97 motor is not working with the 96 computer. Any help would be great
