ok im going to tell the whole story because i cannot figure this out. well i took a trip up north this weekend. its a 3 hr trip. if anyone knows where Atlanta, Mi is thats where i was, well on hwy 33 its a straight long open hwy. i was cruising at 60-65 came up to a pair of cars going 50, speed limit is 55. so i go to pass not 100% throttle go to 3rd then went to shift to 4th at around 5k rpm and hit 2nd!! now i thought there was a safety for not doing this but i guess not. the car slowed quickly and revved so high the tach was all the way past the 7k mark. well i pushed the clutch in a soon as it happened and went to 5th. no noticeable problems right away or driving concerns, i was very nervous and mad at myself for it. about 15-20 miles down the road was a gas station, so i stop to pop the hood and check everything and as soon as i opened the door i herd it ticking, loud too. i dont know what type of tick but it was similar to the rod knock on my old car. at that point i was like fu(k it i have to get home. closed the hood and headed to the e-way. now i had a 2 hour drive ahead of me about 115 miles. so i went 70mph the whole way home on the e-way again no problems or driving concerns. when i got home i put it in the garage and popped the hood to check how loud it had gotten and check the oil. i open the door and the noise is gone? check the oil still looks fresh no metal no strange odor. i thought maybe the heat was stopping the noise. so i go inside and go to sleep. today i started it again and nothing it sounds normal. let it idle for 20 min and nothing drove it around the block and normal. now my question, is my car hurt? what could make noise then not do it anymore and not cause any driving concern? can a car fix itself after being driven? was i just imagining the noise because i was expecting it or to scare myself? anyone with input thank you. sorry for the long post, just wanted the whole story out there.
LMFAO i though i was the only fool to do this aswell i did it to man. my check engine light came on and i though the car was going to die got home let the car chill and it went away the cel went away to and the car feels fine this was months ago
Same thing happened to me when I had my cavalier.. Gave me a lesson not to drive when I'm soo tired.. lol. The car ran fine till I sold it a year later. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe get an oil change to thank it for not blowing up on you? hehe.

At such high RPMs oil will foam....
Air bubbles were starving the lubrication system for oil...
Talk to anyone who has raced cars....
Ainti-foam additives in racing oil usually keeps this from happening....
