BAAAAD Oil
Wednesday, June 07, 2006 10:46 PM
I've been getting some trouble out of my 05 sunfire since i last got my oil changed at a diff place, I'm not sure if the oil they used was semi synth or what not, but my car isnt turning over as well, and the gas mileadge is horrible. I'm gonna go check it out, but what type of oil is needed for the eco engine, or which ones are better than others? becuase i'm probably going to end up draining it and doing it myself... thanks or any help anyone can give me!

on the comment that places use recycled oil.. I used to work at Jiffy Lube, the normal oil was in bulk, but the other stuff we sold was in bottles. I doubt i have recycled Mobil 1 from an unopened bottle in my car.. I'm gonna think the issue is unrelated, oil doesnt affect gas mileage as much as you think (1-2% i believe they say), as for the starting, might be related to the gas mileage.

Hard starting is normally a fuel related issue. Like it leaking past the diaphram in the FRP, and then you dont have fuel pressure until it builds back up.

Anyways I doubt thats whats wrong, I was just giving an example of a possible fuel problem.

Well, as far as I know, I haven't done anything different to my car and it started acting up shortly after i got the oil change done. I haven't had any other problems with my vehical as well so it really doesn't make sense to me that something else is causing this! But im gonna go check out what kind of oil they use anyways just to make sure.

Ya check the engine to see if maybe they pulled a hose or wire loose? I've knocke the main vacuum tree off my 2.2 once or twice before I learned to avoid it.

I am using Royal Purple 5W30 and a K&N oil filter. It costs more but your interval between oil changes is longer. So I figure it balances out in the end. Peace of mind for me. Have you also done the other maintenance items? Fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, plugs etc? Full maintenance helps in narrowing down possible problem areas when they occurr. Also check spark plug gap and battery and altenator output as part of your maintenance routine. Hope this helps.
