So probably a dumb question

I am coming to you guys because I am not getting the help I need sadly from my guy. Anyway, moving on my car is chugging, pretty bad. 95 Cavy, 2.2 .At first it had a miss. And I know around the manifold area it is leaking pretty severly, so let me know if you think thats the problem. But anyway, its chugging badly now, it sounds like a lawn mower. The whole car basically shakes. I smell gas which I am assuming is the fumes from the leak. And this is my guess that it needs to be fixed there and it would solve my issue, but my husband doesn't believe me. Mind you, I was the one that figured out what a quad module was on my Saturn and how to fix it and my husband along with the guys he worked with at a auto parts store didn't know. I looked it up and poof it was fixed. LOL and I was the one that figured out my car was out of gas and all the guys believed it to be the timing chain. So maybe I am right again? It's chugging and doesn't want to get up to speed. Suddenly it will jump and get up to speed if you tromp on it some. Like it's plugged. At high speeds, it doesn't so much act like it's chugging. A couple of weeks ago, it was having a problem simaler to that, backfiring. And I put some gas treatment in it. Solved it for about a week. And it started this basically around the time it got hot and humid here. And rained. It's done this before but not as bad like now. Not sure if that would have anything to do with it. I put some gas treatment in it again and it didn't phase it. I wanted to get the fuel filter changed but my husband doesn't think its that since we replaced it a year ago in June. Then I wanted to get the injectors and stuff cleaned at a shop our friend owns. But he said it would be a waste of money. I would like to have opinions on what you guys think. Since I am not getting any help from him...my father seems to agree more with me. But...if this is all obvious I am sorry for wasting your time. But you guys have helped me in the past and once again proven I was right. lol (last time it was related to my back breaks.)

I would get the injectors cleaned, along with changing the spark plugs. probably wouldn't hurt to get the fuel filter changed either.

when you say "leaking severely", what is leaking and from where?

If it were mine, I would:-

1. Get the manifold leak fixed-change the gasket there or whatever it needs. This will eliminate any problems there from the equation.

2. Change the spark plug wires for new (May be a cheaper fix than #3)

3. Next, suspect one or both coils/ignition module (This because it backfired and seems to be affected by moisture/rain. This, and the driving symptoms seem to point to ignition)

4. Remember, this is only a long distance guess!

I agree with Alont. Fix the leak, change the plugs & wires dist cap/rotor. I'd also change the fuel filter (cheap and easy) and have a look at the charcoal canister. They have been known to come apart inside. If you haven't chanced the PVC valve do that too, another cheap & easy. That list shouldn't be expensive, and fairly easy to do. If it still does it, ignition module / coils possibly. Hope that helps, let us know either way.

Thanks guys. I will be sure to update you on all that happens. Everything you suggested is what I guessed. I remember when I first got the car we had to replace the coil for 3 and 4. And he said now its number 2 that is acting up. Thanks again.

I'd say once that's taken care of, apply a liberal aluminum bat coating to the exterior of your guy for not giving you the help you need.

It does sound to me like the leak should be fixed PRONTO. then go from there.

LOL I am seriously, seriously thinking about the whole bat thing. Good idea...lol we went out today and I made him stop by the auto store to pick up the parts, the donut (sp?) gasket and the bolts and springs to repair the leak. So I PRAY that works, if not then we are trying the coil next. Tomorrow I should have results on the first repair. You guys have been great, I love reading all the threads and seeing the pics. I hope to have mine just as nice. I'm getting a hold of a new door and some minor parts for my car and then on to the mods. Well after this fix of course. Should keep the bat for the other fixes. I just want to learn, I know some stuff, this car could be a project for both of us. But if not dad can help

I had the same problem with my 1992 Z-24, Just give it a complete tune up, replacing spark plugs and wires and see if that works, because mine were rotten and it made it run like crap
