Hello, I have a 98 sunfire GT 2 door (2.4L). I am having a problem, when i am driving, the car seems to drift side to side, and i have to constantly adjust the wheel to keep the car straight. Also, when i brake it seems the car pulls to the left occassionally (during harder braking). The front brakes (pads/calipers/rotors) were replaced within the last year, and the rear shoes were just replaced last month. Just had it in to the mechanic last month and nothing was mentioned. Any suggestions on what it could be? or what i can check? Thank you.
A lot of things can make the car wander. Front end alignment, bad tire, unmatched tires, worn steering parts, worn rack come to mind. However, I believe your braking problem is a bad flexible rubber hose that runs from the hard line to your caliper (probably a bad right hose). For the wandering problem, try swapping the rear tires for the front and see if the problem gets any better. Make sure the air pressure is ok. FWIW the Cavalier is 30 psi but I found that to be too low. I inflate mine to 35 psi and the car handles better and no noticeable difference in ride quality (doesn't seem to make the car ride any rougher).
God bless America.
thanks, checked the tires...front right must have a slow leak, i always put it up to 35, and within few days its down to 25 or so....should mention that when i turn (usually left) there is a "clunking" sound coming from the right wheel, i can hear it even when going straight if i go over some potholes or something.....of course i smashed my horn going over a new speedbump downtown LOL but thats another issue.
If you're hearing a clunk going over bumps, your sway bar end links may need replaced. GM had a TSB on the older models for this problem.

I've been hearing that for a long time. I thought it was normal.
Where can I find the TSB?
Should they be replaced with the poly type bushings?
