Misfire Problem
Wednesday, April 12, 2006 9:54 AM
I have a 2002 with the 5-speed at 107K miles. The clutch is the original. This car is my daily driver on 35 miles of Interstate, one-way, to work. Lately I have noticed a problem with acceleration in second gear take-offs after a cold-start. Starting from first gear is fine, but when I hit second, the car semi-lurches and hiccups before smoothing out. It herky-jerks a touch at the very onset of third, but quickly mellows. Can anyone shed some light on the possible problems?

The engine threw a code about 3 weeks ago, but quickly extinguished it. I haven't hooked up my code reader yet, but I'm betting there is a misfire going on under the hood. Everything except for the spark plugs and plug wires is original.

have you changed your spark plugs and boots? with AC DELCO ones?

I changed the plugs around 50K (I think) and I did change the plug wires as well around 75K because one of them broke at the plug connector. I initially thought that was the problem, but when I tugged on all of the wires at the boots, none indicated a breakage. I might pull the plugs this weekend and have a look. I was thinking O2 sensor as well, since it has never been pulled.

OK, I connected the code reader to it today and pulled teh following:
P0122 and P0502 - TPS low voltage and VSS low voltage. Makes sense as the thing tries to stall and cut out at low idle. So, which should I try to swap first, plus, where are they located?

TPS sensor tends to throw off the VSS when the voltage reads low. Thank God there are people on the Dodge forum with technical knowledge that is not limited to fart cans and installing a CAI.
