well i was desprate for an oil change and went to walmart...well they didnt tighten my oil filter and everythin leaked out the night before, well when i was half way home from work i noticed the engin smokin and pulled over and saw the leak, they sent some one out to tighten it and refill it and all, but i wanna know how much damage could have happened drivin 70 miles with leakin oil, i mean i never got an oil light or check engin and i was only drivin a little rougher for a couple min.
am tryin to get it into a shop but there all filled up till next wed, and walmart said they would cover havin it gettin looked at and if there were any damaged.

how much oil was missing? sounds like a minor leak and the smoke was just some just oil driping on to your hot motor/exhaust and burning up, which shouldn't be to bad. I would have them pay to get your motor hotsy'd all nice and clean.
could be a lot of damage, could be none, at least walmart seems like they're doing what they're supposed to to make it right.

If your oil light didn't come on and your oil was readible on the dipstick than I am doubtful that any damage has happened.
How many quarts did it take to bring the oil level back to the normal zone?
That would leave 2 quarts still in the motor. Something worth following-up with at the garage.
Three quarts low will cause bearing damage. The very thing to go ever on any engine that is run low on oil is the rod bearings, the very last thing to go is the oil pump.
The first I would do is remove your oil pan and inspect what you can of the main bearings and rod bearings. You can remove your main caps and inspect the inside of them, along with the bearing itself and the crank.
I would be looking for heat damage, and also any signs of scraping together with the crank, remember the crank should ride on the main bearings, not touch them.

yea that was my first consern...thanx guys
unfortunatly i can get it to the dealer till next wensday cuz there back up so ill just ride it and if it died then they owe me a new motor, but im gonin to go get a letter from walmart statin they will cover any damages for the next couple thousand mile or at least till i get it looked at

It will not definently do anything! And if you pull your oil pan to look for metal bits I gaurentee your gonna find some. All engines were and produce metal fileings and bits.
If your oil presure is fine and its not makeing and death noises then you should be fine.
Have a shop check it out to see what PSI the oil presure is at and if it falls within specs for your car. If not then you have a problem, rather WalMart does as they would be replaceing the engine from their pocket. Don't panic till you know for sure there's just no point.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
I highly doubt they are going to swap in a new motor for you. Don't think it's that easy to get what you want out of them. No company is going to incur such a huge expense of swapping a motor without head office approving it. I'm certain that they will want to investigate and inspect the motor before anything happens.

well heres the update, i went to mineke and have them do a qucik check and they said there is valve tap issues and possible damage to the timing chain, it knocks at idel and its loud in the mornin.
i took it back to walmart and the manager said i should not get a rental car and just drive mine till it dies or i get it into a dealer to have them check it out. he said i shouldnt have stoped drivin it just should have let it die and they would have given me a new motor and no one would have known.
funny thing is while i was there i was yelling at other shoppers in line to make sure they put oil in you car and close the filters and all and flashing the paper around, and some other guy was there for the same thing they did to my engin.
but my problem is if that all they find is wrong with the car and fix thoes whos to say that the heat could have warped something and a month or 2 from gettin it fixed it blows a head gasket and they call it normal wear and tear, which would be BS! on a 50,000 mile car that been taken care of till reacently.

There isn't a %100 or %50 even way to know, or for them to know you didn't have any of those issues before hand on the same page.I agree with the manager on keep driving it till it blew, except one tells you that ,you blow it up, and that manager needs someone else to sign for a new engine and they say no, then you get screwed over.Wish you the best of luck with it and every person that happens to gets different results, hope yours is better than most i've seen around here and that if they only fix those problems, that is all that is really wrong.
Good Luck
Kris~
Oil light wont come on till its way too late... My 2.4l spun bearings in cyl 3 &4 and was only about 2 quarts low when it started ticking. It doesnt take much.
You wont get cash from walmart so there is no turbo in your future, they will likely have a designated shop perform the minimal repairs and required it be billed directly to them. But who cares, if they fix the mistake why try and take advantage of them?

Something similar happened to friend of mine, walmart didn't put the oil cap back on and left it sitting on top of the engine. Walmart should be avoided when it comes to cars....

I had a friend that worked at walmart and did oil changes and tire changes etc...anyways one time he didn't tighten the lulug nutsn this one guys tire and it sheered off while the guy was doing 60mph down the highway...he didn't get fired and walmart after fighting it for a while ended up paying for this guy's damages, if fact i think they bought the car because the frame was bent and wwasn'tdrivable, my friend wwas notfired...about a month later my friend didn't tighten the oil filter enough on this other guys car and his engine seized up not to far down the road. he was fired after that one, also about a week later everyone he worked with including the manager was terminated for stealing out of peoples cars and from walmart stock.
The people that work in Walmart TLE's may have experience with cars but experience isn't a requirement at WM TLE, in fact i had to show my friend how to do a oil change like 2 days before he started at WM, he never worked on his car at all. They asked me if i wanted to work there and i was never asked if i had worked on vehicles before.
Personally i wouldn't even take my car to one of those oil change shops like jiffy lube etc...
Go to a local dealer or do it yourself. Personally i would rather mess my own stuff up then to have some @hole mess it up because he doesn't know what to do or because he hates his job or something.
wal-mart here in Johnstown PA did the same thing to my buddy and blew his engine in his zx2, he was prolly too stupid to notice it, hes a chrome rim, wing draggin, lambo door havin type, not for any performance, just show.
