Starter / Starting System problem
Tuesday, April 04, 2006 8:38 PM
Last night, I had an issue with my starter. The long mounting bolt backed itself a little bit, broke off, and from there the starter casting actually BROKE off, leaving my starter dangling entirely. In the process a black wire was cut. I replaced the starter today and as sits right now, I have the big red wire underneath the larger nut secured. The black wire beneath the 8MM nut is secured. However, one more wire remains from what I am looking at. The car STARTS as is now, but the moment it starts, the battery light comes on. I trimmed off some of the insulation around the mystery wire and secured it beneath the black wire under the 8MM nut. And when I did that, no battery light came on, but the starter did NOT shut off after the car fired. I'm looking at electrical diagrams right now and I @!#$ hate these things they baffle me. Can anyone go out and look at their LN2 starter for me or give me some insight as to what is the problem? Thanks.

UPDATE: i moved the mystery wire over to the 13MM nut on the start, underneath the battery cable. the car starts without a battery light, but the wire gets hot

I double checked the wiring diagram and all the wires to the starter ARE CORRECT as I have them. The "mystery" wire, which is the grey wire (fusible link) is the only one not wired into a spade connector. I don't really think that could necessarily cause the wire to get warm to the touch (which no wire should be) after starting the car. Does ANYBODY have any other ideas as to why this is happening? Please enlighten me. If you have an LN2, could you get under your car and check it out? It only takes a few minutes to look and double check and even post some decent pictures or draw up a nice diagram for me? Thanks so much.
