Hey guys,
My car failed inspection today because my e-brake only works on the very last notch. They said that it needs to work mid way through to pass. So im wondering if I can adjust my ebrake at all to get it to work in the middle more so then the last notch lol.Any help is appreciated I need this thing to pass soon or I can't drive. thanks
"Boost tuning"....... have you had your 8 PSI today?

Brake moderately hard in reverse a few times. If that doesn't do it, you'll have to take the wheel off and adjust the little wheel thingy in the drum.
The handle itself is self-adjusting so if the brakes are in proper working order, the handle will engage properly.
Having it engage high isn't really an issue though, so long as it engages.
thanks much weasel

ill jack it up tommorow and look at it .

turn the wheel on the drum until you can barely put the drums back on and turn them. make it as tight as you can and still be able to get the drum on. and then slam it in reverse a couple times.
What does reversing accomplish?
Is that the way to get it to "self adjust"? Or to "bed" the shoes in?

nothing. just like holding the button in and pulling the ebrake up and down to tighten it (which doesnt work). you have to take the drum off and do it manually

If everything is in good working order, braking in reverse should automatically adjust them. Over time though, it seems that this method loses its effectiveness.
You really shouldn't ever have to manually turn that wheel in the drum, but we all know that you do because the self-adjusting is hardly reliable.
i never believed the reverse thing because people always try it and they come back and say it doesnt work
The shoes shift slightly in reverse (and forward). If the brakes need adjustment, the shift will be a skosh more than normal, engage the adjusting lever, then turn the star wheel when the brakes set themselves back to rest. Now, theoretically, this should also happen (for some reason) in forward as well. If that still won't do it, the cable is stretched and you'll need to replace it. Involved, yes, but no complicated steps.
