Water on drivers side floor
Tuesday, March 28, 2006 9:19 AM
So i got a 2001 cavalier the other day. Its in great shape inside and out. However when I was putting in my floor mats I noticed that my front drivers side floor is very wet. I tryed to vacuum it this morning and dry it up but I didn't have time get it done before I had to leave for school. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what I can do to fix it?

I smelled it this morning and it smelled like musty water. Im stumped by it though because its only wet in on the front drivers side floor. I doesnt appear to be a leak in the glass or anything like that and I didn't see anything obvious.

Not sure about the newer cars but on the second gens there are 2 rubber flaps on the firewall that cover the drain holes. Leaves and other debris falls in around the wipers and settles down into the cowl area and clog the holes.

God bless America.

I just bought it last week. I hope to god it has never been wrecked. I dryed it all up. If it comes back then I'll have to keep looking around. I remember my friends old second gen. leaked behind the drivers seat too but I forget what was causing it... Thanks guys

Although its not likely the AC has been used lately, but what is common on GM cars is the drain for the AC (condensation formed when it runs), gets clogged. This drain is on the passenger side.
It might be as easy as cleaning out that drain. If you take it to a shop, they will likely only charge you less than $50 to check and clean it for you.

Had a similar bout with my '96 'Fire coupe. Turns out that the firewall unibody area panel welds inside the cowl (not specifically sure what-all they fixed) had failed, or something. They gave me a huge discount on account that it was an assembly flaw -- not my fault. Still, cost a small chunk for the final bill. I'm guessing they sealed up/ rewelded the area back together. No more oceans for me. My A/C drain clogs up, to. Left turns result in my feet getting COLD water on them out of the vent duct!!!

to get the car crash thought out of the way look around and see if there's any rocker/rubber guard applied under the car, firewall, under the carpet This is to save bodymans time and hide the weld marks small folds, (cuts time to make money) i know they shouldn't do things like that but they do and later down the line ya pay for it. if its the heater core. and if you have antifreeze in it. not just water then your hands would get slippery when you touch the carpet other than that. it might be geting in behind your dash from the out part of the firewall and running down let us know what ya find out
