Whining noise from driver side front
Thursday, March 23, 2006 11:33 PM
as the title states, i get a whining noise from the driver side front of my car. doesn't matter if its hot or cold, and only happens when or darn near WOT and doesn't happen if free revved, has to be in gear and moving. i don't seem to have or have noticed any adverse performance affects, it sounds similar to a supercharger whine, and no i don't have a supercharger or turbocharger, all i have is short ram intake and ghetto 2 1/4 exhaust. as far as how loud it can get well, i can have my music on with some good rap and i can hear it, then again all i have are the stock speakers. so, i dunno really, thats the best i can explain it. i get it in first, second, and sometimes third, i haven't noticed it in any of the other gears though. any idea guys and/or gals?

Well YlwLsSprt , Ive got 01 cavalier 2.2L 4 spd auto, Ive got the same noise happening when I am only drive. I am getting its got something to do with the electronics inside the tranny, I dont have any slipping in gears, The noise is there. Ive got 135,000 kms on my engine I guess thats what happens with the miles / kms do on eniges and trannys.

well, I would some trouble shooting before you bring out the cheque book for youre power steering pump, I would first of all try removing youre old power steering fuild, replace it will new power steering fuild. Then take a look at youre rack and pinion system for leaks of power steering fuild. It would hurt to get youre tie rods / and ball joints greased as well, ( Note question how long has it been since youre tranny filter & fuild has been serviced?). If things in those area's still happen then I would look into getting youre power steering pump replaced. You could get a used one from the auto wreckers for about 30-$60.

Good Luck
