my parking brake won't latch. the pads are worn a little but i dont think thats it.
before, i could pull the brake up all the way and it was like that when i got the car (in 2004) but about a week ago the button came out a little further than usual and got stuck, well i pulled up on the handle pretty hard and kinda hit (not to hard) the button and it released. but now the damn thing wont catch. so can anybody tell me wtf might be wrong? anybody else had this problem?

You mean the handle wont click when it goes up or the actual Ebrake wont work. Cause in the drums is a seperate spring and lever for the ebrake.
Maybe you snapped the cord, and destroyed a spring.
the handle won't lock, the brake works.im wondering if the handle it's self could be messed up. i wanna get it fixed soon though, kinda aggravating leaving my car in gear all the time.

I have the same problem but i don't know what's wrong with it. Anyone know what causes this?

does the lever feel loose when its beening pulled up, Is the E brake locking the rear brakes when applied. If its just he lever not locking, Its morely youre lever system in youre console. If the rear drums are not locking either the spring in the drum set-up or cable.
Good Luck
I decided to get it fixed by going to the dealer. Today is day 2 i had to bring it to them and it's still not fixed. Appearantly when i got my rear shoes replaced all of the springs were switched. Hell the brakes worked fine, so i didn't know. I got that fixed but i was missing 2 springs out of something. Come back to dealership today and now i have to get a whole new lever assembly. The only good news is that i get it done at reduced labor because i waited 9 hours yesterday (they didn't realized i was going to wait on it). I will find out what caused this in case i decide to start drifting one day (not really but could share the idea). It didn't latch but the brake still worked!
