I couldn't seem to find anything on this. so I'll just see what you guys say and reccomend.
my friend Ben Mallow has a spun bearing I believe. whenever he revs the engine you can hear a noise inside of the engine like... clunking rattling.. but my best guess is it's a thrown rod bearing.
My question is, what is he going to need?
I'd like to know how much he should expect to pay for OEM stuff.
I've never helped someone replace a thrown rod bearing so I don't know what he'd need to buy off hand. So maybe one of you guys can run me down a list of what he'll need to fix his problem?
My guess he'll need a whole new set of bearings (I'm unsure how those are sold quantity wise) and a new rod perhaps?
Anyways, help a guy out, I'm trying to push him in the right direction.
chances are the crank is going to be @!#$, and who knows what else. plus think of all the little metal shards of what was once the rod bearing. I'd say 9 times out of 10 you're best off getting a new engine...happened to me two summers ago, now I have an oil pressure gauge that I diligently watch...
Damn, I'd hate to tell him this..
it just happened the other day also, so the damage to the crank can't be that severe...
hmmm
Well I just called and told him.
He hung up on me =/
I told him to do that, he doesn't wanna get an engine with low miles.
it's an ld9 by the way, those things usually have quite a bit of miles on them.
I'm going to go junkyarding for him later today, see if I can't find an engine.
he refuses to trust engines from wrecking yards. Go figure.
it's that or about $2,200 from GM parts direct.
Here's the thing with junk yards sometimes they get a great car with a mashed up tranny and the engine runs great! so they pull it out some will write the mph/km on the block some drop 20,000 off the real miles its all a 50/50 gamble if he's keeping the car for awhile stay clear ......iv'e talked to other cav/sun drivers i had a tin can bang cling clang under the hood coming from the drive pully system i used a bottle of wd 40 and it was gone ...this was a common thing happening with other guys aleast 2.2L's
