I have a 89 cav. and it has a problem starting it does not matter what time of day it is it just does not want to start. Some time I have to give it a shot of starting fluid then other days I just have to hold the gas pedal down a little ways for it to start. Some people are saying that it could be the throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, or the fuel pressure regulator. I was hoping that some one could tell me if any of these could be the problem. any help will be greatly appreciated.
Ok for starters does the car just turn and over but just not fire.By holding the accerlerater down some it does fire up could be either ur tps cable is bad, which would store a code in the ecm.Check for codes for that should be a code 21 or 22.If so replace the tps.The fuel pump if original could be going do a psi check for fuel pressure and make sure it meets the specs should be 9-13 psi it should have one injector since u have no info about ur cars eng in ur registry.IF the fuel pressure regulator is going it probably will be leaking fuel around the base of where it mounts on the tbi, which is preset at the factory.Do a code check first the tps would show if there is code for it being a issue.Second do a psi check for ur fuel pump which may be going and just has not bit the dust yet.Typically the regulator while can b a problem does not cause the initial problem its norm the fuel pump if original. The idle air would cause the car to idle irractically all the time,I would rule that out.Check the above and repost ur finds after the fact.OK
