I have a 98 Sunfire GT. Lately it's been making tapping noises. It sounds like valves tapping but I dunno. Here's the thing. It only starts making the noise at 2500 rpms and up. When the engine is cold it only does it at about 3000 rpms and up. When the car is parked and you give it throttle it won't do it at all. I've heard anything from valves, to rod bearings, to exhaust leak. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Okay what have you diagnost so far?

I haven't diagnosed anything. I can't really figure it out. I was hoping to get an idea of what it might be so I can get a ballpark estimate to fix. I'm just hoping it isn't valvetrain.

Another thing it does... When I am on the highway giving it gas you hear the tapping noise. When I take my foot off the gas it goes away.
try running a tank of 93 through with a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and a bottle of dry gas. it's cheap and i know it helps the tapping problem in my parents' saturn.
That's another thing I heard is that it might be injectors. They are due for a replacement.
