my Lil cuzs has a sunfire 98 2.2 and it eats radiator fluid. your fill it up and drive for like 2-4 hrs then the lights comes on. so we check the fluid and its half gone.. theres no puddles under her car or nothing. what could cause this? and where is the fluid going?
thanks for the help
may have a headgasket blown and its leaking coolant into the oil system, check your oil for a brownish muddy sludge. thats what happened to my brothers van

Check for the milkshake as described above. and check the tail pipe. White "smoke" (not mist) should emmit from the tail pipe if your car is burning coolant/water.
Sounds like a blown head gasket problem. What coolant are you running just out of curiosity. You should avoid DexCool (the orange @!#$) at all costs.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
but the gm cars recommend dexcool
Dex-Cool WILL foul the system is ANYthing else is used with it. It doesn't like to be mixed with any other coolant. Dex-cool with distilled (or filtered) water will last the 10 years or 100K miles. My car is proof positive of that.
Sounds like the waterpump is ether gone or a coolant line is leaking.

nope, if it was the wp or a line you would see coolant...its the head gasket...the only difference in orange coolant or green is how long you can leave it in your car without changing it.
Well if there's no puddle and your losing it that fast I'd say it's ether coming out when your driving under pressure..are most likely your head gasket it gone 2.2l and 2.4 are famous for it ..i use dexcool and i have 402,500 km on my car i think thats like 250.000 miles ?? anyways just change the coolant when it needs it otherwise it turns to acid on you hoses and gaskets

yeah it was the blown headgasket thanxs for all the help!!!
WE NEED A STICKY FOR HEAD GASKETS!!
oh, btw coolant in the oil system is really really bad and very dificult to clean and fix...not to be the bearer of bad news, but most cases ive seen, its usually easier to drop in a new motor than clean out all that sludge from the oil passages...but if its not too bad of a leak you may be able to flush it all out

Ehhh, Use what is recommended for your car. In this case, it's dexcool. There is nothing wrong with dexcool. It's god's gift to man. lol
exactly, i love how people will come here and talk all kinds of crap on dexcool, yet have no evidence on how it is bad...my grand am had dexcool in it for the time i owned it and had no issues, my cavalier has had it for 3 years and its fine. i love the stuff, makes car maintenance easier

Hey,
One is propylene glycol, and the other is ethylene glycol. I am no chemical engineer, but there is a difference between them. Although you are right, with Dexcool & AC Delco platinum plugs, you can go 100,000 miles without a tune up.
Yeah, I really hate how people come om here and bash dexcol without avtually knowing what they are talking about.
Good stuff and I am sticking with it!!
Take care,

Dexcool is bad bad stuff. I bought a 99 Blazer new, maintained it regularly with 3K oil changes, 40K trans filter/fluid. I trusted the dexcool to be good for the 100K GM said. What a load of Cr*p. After 60K & 3 years 6months the cr*p started to become jello and
clogged the heater core and radiator. I had to flush it with a power flusher that a friend had that works at a radiator shop. I was amazed at the jello like jumk that came out!!
There's been a class action lawsuit filed against GM for the exact problem i described above. I didn't believe the rumors and saw it with my wife's Blazer personall.
Change that junk asap and put the normal green stuff in. My personal experience.

how much coolant does our systems require ?
My water pump went out at 55,000 miles. That's the $800-to-replace water pump variety that's driven from the cam chain on the 2.4l motors. My mechanic let on that he'd found it common that Dexcool water pumps didn't last long due to the lower lubricating properties vs. ethylene-glycol. I put a generic Autozone water pump in, filled with ethylene-glycol and I've since put over 100,000 miles on it with no problems. Every (independent) place I've been to to have the radiator flushed and the fluid replaced has agreed with me that they don't use and don't like Dexcool.
I've only used DexCool and my wp has 150,000 miles on it. I changed the coolant at 100k and just changed it again at 150k.
