I was going to check to see if an oil change was in order but the odometer is at same Kms as it was in November, the trip odometer is dead too, any information be appreciated don“t know if they are electronic or work through a cable, if it is the cluster it be expensive I guess.
Good question, it“s a Z-24 automatic, year 1996
Don“t know, it is the OEM that came with the car and it is in KM, the speedometer is working ok, but both odometers are not working, I will try to get some info from the dealer.
Do the Nubers look like this
(Digital)
or like this
(Mechanical)
I'm assuming it's mechanical because it's a '96 and the digital ones didn't come out until '98 or '99.
You do have a point there.
Does the speedometer still work?
Yes, speedometer is ok, and no it doesn“t look like the pics, this is an older model the trip odometer is in the lower part of the RPM gauge and the odometer is to the right side under the set of warning lights it is old style with litle discs with numbers. Talked to a GM mechanic and he says it is a problem in the cluster.... but it looks mechanical to me.
Replace the guage cluster.

A new cluster over here is about $ 350. I heard it can be fixed. Worth a try, I guess???
You have an internal failure of the instrument cluster and you need to march yourself to the junk yard and get another one.
I“ll get the cluster out and check it, still the odometer looks like the mechanical picture that stlwaco posted.
yeah, its mechanical numbers, but the there is a problem with the cluster because, its not telling the odometer to change

No odomoter doesn't sound that bad lol, especially if you still have speedometer. I dont know how rushed i would be to fix it, unless i was gonna sell it. haha i guess thats pretty dirty though
Yep not really urgent and found with the search a "how to remove the dash" with pics so when I get the time I do it, this Jbody org rocks!
Well I removed the instrument cluster and everything looked perfect but in this model 96, the odometer numbers are moved by a small electric engine and it“s dead, it makes a squeaky sound when turned, Gm dealer do not sell this part just the whole cluster. Anybody knows if someone sells the electric motor????
