Cavalier engine swap

Will a 2.2L engine out of a 2000 Cavalier directly interchange with a 1998 2.2L? Will everthing bolt up (tranny etc.)? My girlfriend is having some problems and I found a 2.2L from a 2000 with 85000 miles pretty cheap. If they are the same it would be cheaper to swap to a lower milage motor.

Jason,

I just completed an engine swap on a 94 RS 2.2l. My engine lost the valve spring on #2
cylinder, dropped a valve through the piston and bent the connecting rod in this cyl.
(The engine kept running for 12 miles, got me home, and even cranked up for me to
drive it onto the ramps!) Sorry for the ramble but my point was that both the head and
block were damaged to the point that my engine rebuilder had to use another head and
block. I found that the engine mount bolts on the forward engine mount were 12mm on
my original engine and 10x1.5 on the rebuilt block. Overall no big difficulties but I would
not assume that everything is exactly the same based on my experience. Hope this helps.
