ok i know in the end its my decision but do you guys think this is a good deal. 97 z24 1200$ out the door price its got a bad water pump it also has a rebuilt motor with 30,000 mile on it. no body damage or anything along those lines.
I picked mine up last week for $1400. Nothing wrong with it and 112,000 miles

It's tough to accept the "rebuilt motor" line when nobody I know would re-use a water pump on a rebuild and a new pump would certainly last more than 30,000 miles. Justified or not, it does make you wonder about the quality of the rebuild. In many places, a water pump replacement at a shop is a $1200 job in itself. If you can do the work yourself and you like the car, it's your call. But, you certainly have grounds to haggle as nobody who knows what a 2.4 water pump costs to replace is going to jump on it. If you really like/want the car, offer $800 or barter some other way if he gets it fixed (by a competent shop).

he's right man, cars with pre-existing issues always hold sway when it comes to haggling.. check the KBB and go from there
