really what is the point of flamin on noobs???? they are just getting into the scene and might not know that much. so what if they cant use a search button or have stupid questions. this is supposed to be a platform to exchange knowledge and information on our vehicles. just because you've been on the org for a while doesnt mean you have the right to be a dick....remember at one point in time we were all noobs and lacked experience and mechanical skills... no one is born a mechanic nor is born with a full knowledge of every working part of a motor. so theres no reason to be mean, if you think there stupid just have a laugh and let it go.
i decided to write this post because its sad that people decide not to use the j forum because some guy was a complete jerk because they asked a stupid question. every day i see more and more post of just @!#$ talking and for what so some dude can feel better about himself. please GROW UP and be appreciative that we even have a forum.
here we go again.........this post is gonna do nothing but get YOU flamed. every few weeks or so theres a post JUST like this. SEARCH, lol
but seriously, this post isnt going to change anything. its the interweb man, if people leave a forum because of people bashing, then they needed to be offended.
Because we can, last time I checked this was a free country (for most of us)
USA RULES
lol. I agree with you partly. but I have also always wanted to use a picture like this.
Becuase noobs all have a similer demografic.
Noob>search feture
they never use it and their is years of information stored on this site.
i know im just saying why cant people be civil
I'm on alot of other cav sites that I've really enjoyed but stayed away from this one until recently, just because of the reputation of people on this site. I heard rumors for a long time that alot of the people here where d*cks so I stayed away... I would look but never posted anything. Now I just really don't give a @!#$ if people flame me because of a post, I'm not trying to impress some keyboard comando!
I have learned this though and it should be good advice for all noobs!
READ DONT TYPE YOU LEARN MORE THAT WAY!!!

there are over 10,000 registered users last time i checked, take 10,000 people from any walk of life and your going to get allot of @!#$s. just suck it up, be a man and ignore them. whining about it isn't going to make the @!#$s go aways its just going to make them do it more.

Mainly becuase of pointless posts, for example, this one.
There IS a Newbies section on the forum, where they can post there newbish question, for example Why can i not rev past 4k and so on.
And as mentioned ALOT on this board the search feature doesn't seem to being getting used. Along with not reading stickys and its seems to get on some peoples nerves when the question is asked 4 times in the same section of the forum one after another.
But thats just my 0.02
(99 - Sunfire - Red - 2200)(95 - Cavalier z24 - Purple - 2.3 quad four)
if they can't use the search button they shouldn't be working on cars and probably shouldn't be driving.
It's like a child new to this wicked world, don't you remember when you were young and asking 100's of dumb questions?
You ask questions (or search LOL) you obtain knowledge and move on...thats how it works. With some questions being asked 4 times in the same section is obviously form 4 different newbie's who are not familar with the search feature (emphasize this and we should be fine).
And can I use the Eibach Sportlines on my stock struts or will they blow?
Because more people have nothing better to do than be an @!#$.
i went to superstreet online maybe month 1/2 ago. i asked a few simple questions about my car and got murdered. came on here and was welcomed with out a problem. I dont even bother with super street anymore
Because if people stopped being A-holes on the JBO i'd stop coming. It's part of the DNA of this site, epic flame wars. Always was...always will be. I'll help someone if they ask a legit question and all the answers are flames. Of course that's after i stop laughing at the funny flames.
I think this thread says it all.
If you can make it here...you can make it anywhere. It's the Thunder dome of web forums.

same on any site.
no one is perfect (regardless what they may think) and everyone had to start somewhere.... over time, they learn the search button (look at the old posts that have been drug up lately)
As a noob I'm going to throw my 2 cents in. I'm an older car nut, first new car was a 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint--just gives you an idea how long I've been around.
i've lurked here for several months to learn about the Cav prior to buying my 2003 a few weeks ago, and I've learned quite a bit. But, I still have questions that only avid Cav owners can answer. Yea, I've got a Haynes and I'm buying a factory service manual, But there's info that only someone who's "been there-done that" can give.
To many of the noobs, this is there first car--it may be a project car they picked up or a late model 2004-2005, but its their's, and they look here for answers, ideas, and opinions. The Cav may be an easy car to work on or mod, but many of these noobs are just starting out and have no experience working on cars--but they want to learn. Telling someone that "if you can't use the search button, you shouldn't be working on your car" is not the way to welcome a potential friend and future car nut. When I started, there were no computers or "search" buttons--you learned by doing and hopefully had a friend that was knowledgable and could help. Thats what the noobs are doing--looking for help.
I've been around forums long enough and am old enough that "flaming" dosen't bother me, but when you flame some young first time owner, he's just going to leave and turn to someplace where he can get help.
Remember, at one time YOU were a noob and I'm sure a lot of you had some silly questions. Remember the pharse, "There' no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers".
If you have to "flame" a noob do it in a good hearted way and explain to him/her HOW to use the search function. Don't turn him/her off from the forum--they'll just go somewhere else and talk this forum down.
Well, I'm done, actually that was 4 cents. And now you can flame me.
Grumpy
I joined in January of 02 a few months after I got my Sunfire. I think one of my first posts was saying hello, and asking a question. I do not recall if there was a search button then, I for some reason don't think there was... you know what I was told? Start reading, then if I had a question, I could ask it.
Honestly in hindsight it was good advice, because while looking for the answer to my question I learned a lot of other valuable info that I may not have otherwise learned.
After I got into autobody and paint, I started pitching in on the exterior forum to help out.
Also, I used to be one of those people who said "hey we were all newbs at one point, chill out"... until I started seeing the same question asked 4 times on the first page on a forum. If they'd simply read down a few post titles, they'd have their answer. If you see that enough, you start getting... what's the word... irritated.
Now, I'm not saying everyone who gets ignorant with newbs is right. There are a lot of people who say things, or put things in a way that is completely ignorant and unnecessary. But if you want to learn something about your car, and you can't take the time to read up on some stuff (there is a WEALTH of information on this site) and take even a few minutes to search, well that's just complete laziness. It's a little different, but look at it this way...
When I was in college, every class I had the professor would give lectures on the chapter topics. We'd cover about 3 chapters in 2 weeks, then have an exam. They didn't go over just what was going to be on the test, we had to read the chapters on our own, and learn the material if we wanted to pass.
Odds are, if you're a newb, and you at least try to search for the info, people will help you out. I do know it's impossible to find EVERY answer to EVERY question you may have, and the search feature isn't foolproof. But the majority of the time it goes like this...
If you have a question and haven't even tried looking for the answer, more people are going to be ignorant with you. If you have a question and at least tried to look for the answer, you'll get many more positive responses. THere's over 30,000 members and years of info available. I've seen people ask questions and say they "don't have time to search", but they wanted an answer. If you can't take 5 minutes to search, what are the odds you'll take the time to thoroughly read your answers and follow the advice given?

maybe an anthem for the noobs?
As I Lay Dying - This Is Who We Are
Now this is who we are
I am no one's hero
For we are not the giant men
That some may think
You are faithful when we are not
So I'd like to tell this story
The way it is meant to be
Without the burden that's in our hearts
None of us would have ever found You
For You are faithful when we are not
You began a work
That only you can complete
Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why
...Why we're given grace we'll never deserve
And a second chance that we will never earn
For there is nothing I can do to save myself
Now this is who we are
I'll never know the answers
And I'll always wonder why
But You have let me start again
I'd rather be called weak
Than die thinking I was strong
Now whenever you are feeling down cuz someone bashed you suck it up and sing your anthem
You pray for a savior, your cries fall on deaf ears -Divine Heresy

This is what I did when I joined....but have been flamed a few times for stupid comments! But the bottom line is your last sentence...
"I'm not trying to impress some keyboard comando!"
Here in lies the problem with JBO! Too many "want a be car guys" and not enough "real car guys" (or gals!)

Another thing that I don't understand...just because that's the way you were treated or it was that way "back then"...why act and do the same today? I mean sure there will be questions that are simply right in front of the poster but to always flame because that's JBO...that's BS!
So...flame away on my a$$!! I certainly deserve it!
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
this is prison and theyre fresh fish.
trial by fire. if they can make it here, then they can hold their own on any other forums.

dont look at it as a hateful thing. look at it like how your older brothers, cousins, friends, or whoever....like how they picked on you when you were young. sure, your older brother probably wrestled you down into the dirt time and time again, but as long as you got back up and kept on going, then he had respect for you and took up for you when someone else picked on you because you were "his" brother and no one else was allowed to mess with you. thats how it goes and theres nothing wrong with it.
again, its not meant to be mean per se, but like i said--its a trial by fire. internet darwinism at its finest where the strong stay and the weak go away. sure, it would be much nicer if everyone got along. but just like in the real world, that simply isnt possible. so instead of looking at it like a bad thing, think of it like hazing for a fraternity. the first year for a noob is hell week and if they can make it through, then they are brothers.
coming back in 2008...
Sorry to be off topic but seriously jnickel...
"I'll shoot myself in the head... if you can tell me that cat's name!"
Sorry I effin love it.
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
Heres my problem with noobs in general...
When you first join the site and your expecting everyone to spoon feed you all the info for anything and everything they have ever wanted to know with a silver spoon then there will be problems. To many people come in with the attitudes like we are lucky they are here and that we owe them respect etc.. To many people have the impression that just becasue we all drive j-bodys that we should bow down to theirs when they post pics of a beat up cavalier at stock ride height with pep boys 17's with the wrong size tires, chrome wiper blades, a fart can and some sick JDM altezza tail light.
Respect is earned not give, wisdom comes with time... stfu and read something, search for your answer before you ask for your answer, we don't owe you @!#$, and like grumpy said.....
grumpyscav wrote: Remember the pharse, "There' no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people".
I couldn't agree more.... why should we help someone who won't help themselves? If they leave and go to another forum and talk bad about us.... GOOD! The more people that do that the better, the more people that do that the better we off we are. It will keep the whinny cry babies that can't take a joke and the jackasses that come in with an attitude from day one out of here, which is a good thing.
