Getting back into it...
Friday, November 09, 2007 3:29 PM
So I am currently driving a 98 S10 5 speed 2.2... I've been trying to sell it for some time and still am... anyways... my dad works with a guy who is selling a 95 sunfire 5 speed 2.2 with around 220k kms on it... from what Im told the guy who owns it has riced it out pretty good... but that will change... Im gunna go look at it monday and maybe snap some shots of it so i can see what you guys think... ill be back with updates soon... so keep looking...

i'd stay away from the 2200's and go for a ecotec or 2.4 motor honestly. If he riced it out it's probably going to be more work than it's worth de-ricing it i'd think.

i had a 95 cavy 2.2 and put 300k kms on it... and loved it so i think ill be fine... i know tons about the 2.2's because my trucks got it too...

i will admit.....the older 2.2s will run forever........

if you want the J to use as a base to modify, then id suggest an eco or TC. if you want the car just to drive, stick with the 2.2

yeah if you want something to just drive get the 2200, i know 2200's can be made quick and all that but the eco or 2.4 is a far better motor to mod for speed if you ask me.

If you get it cheap enough you might be able sell all the aftermarket rice parts and fix it up. Hell if theres enough crap on it you might even be able to pay for the car. Thats a lot of miles, but would be perfect for learning to work on if the price is right.

what do you mean when you say your "getting back into it"

are you buying it to mod or just to be a driver?

if your buying it to mod I'd say don't bother, save your money

well... by saying "getting back into it:" im getting iinto another j-body because i havent had one for quite a while and i missed it...

so my dad didnt know anything about the car... but heres all the info...

1996 Chevy Cavalier Z22... 2 door... 5 speed... 241000kms... pretty much stock except for the rice can and huge wing its got...

and i do plan on mildly modding it... and i love the 2.2's so its a waste of time talking me out of it... but you can try anyways...

im getting it hopefully by the end of the week... it drives really nice... clutch feels good... steering is nice and tight...

and since he only wants $500 its a good deal for me... my dads taking the truck... he wants a beater to drive so he can have it...

Z22 dealer rice. LOL. It is just a badge a dealer ship threw on their so they could sell it for more money. so basicaly it is a 95 base model with a 5 speed for 500 dollars. decent little get around car.

i suppose thats a decent price, you couldn't pay me to drive a 2200 honestly but thats just preference that i chose to drive either a ld9 or eco in a j-body. roughly 150k is alotta miles, right around where things need replacing if not before 150k.

im in the exact opposite boat as you... i wouldnt drive anything but a 2200... ive never liked the 2.4... the ecotec isnt bad... but i like the 2.2's

I'm a speed freak like myself.... and apperently boosted is too..

I would want to mod a J-body without a LD9 in it.... but would settle for an eco if I had too..

As far as "not being able to pay me to drive a 2200".... thats where we differ..... I wouldn't mind having one as a daily driver at all..... I would atcually rather drive a LN2 J-body to work and the store (I would leave it stock) and leave my LD9 Sunfire at home where it's safe and use it as a weekend car. It's gotton to where I've put too much work into my car to be driving it everywhere and getting it door dinged.

If your buying it just do drive and have no delusions of making it fast...... go for it.
