what would you consider a Z24...my brother thinks its a family car and i tell him its pretty much a sports car. im just tryin to settle a dispute im gettin a kick outa. he thinks his 05 supercharged monte carlo is gods gift. i tell him its an old guys car just to piss him off. so help me here. Z24 cavy sports car or no?
it's an economy car. that's it. it's technically a sport compact, and is considered by most insurance companies as a sports car. it's by no means a family car. a cavalier sedan would be more likely to be a family car, but even that's a stretch.
as far as an 05 s/c monte, that's not an old guy's car either.
sports car? no
family car? unless your family consists of two, then no
sporty? yeah, i guess you could say that
supercharged monte = grand touring car (powerful, fast, comfortable, handles like poop

)
Sports car? No!
It's the "sport" version of an economy car.
Actually many people consider this the the true definition of a sports car
Quote:
A sports car is a car designed for sporting performance. While opinions differ as to the exact definition, most sports cars have two seats and two doors, and are designed to excel at a combination of acceleration, top speed, braking, and maneuverability. Great emphasis is often placed on handling—the ability of the car to remain in the control of the driver under challenging condition such as when the car's tires begin to lose their grip on corners.

In other words, a 350Z.

"The J's weren't designed to be sports cars, the suspension sucks, the brakes are tiny, and the target market for our car doesn't need to be able to do any more than 65mph." - Shifted
A more accurate observation has never been typed. These should be the starting points before any serious performance modification. What's the point of making a serious performer if you can't control it's power?
Yeah, there's no way I'd consider any j-body as a sports car.
It's a sport compact at best, since that's a relatively loose term. It applies more directly to cars like the Celica or RSX, but can loosely apply to an economy coupe as well.
At the very leasts, it's a sporty economy car as people have already mentioned.
Ummm... simple answer. No.

It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
Sports car? Not really.
I agree the monte is an old mans car though...I wouldnt buy one, unless I was in a midlife crisis ... but then I'd buy a porche... so ? who knows..
Everyone has their own taste.
90% of us didnt buy our cars to mod. we bought it, and saw some cool stuff for it, and decided to personalize it.... then got addicted.

Bit of a price difference between the MC and a Porsche. Also, you can't use the Porsche as a family car.
And don't let Craig hear you talkin' like that...
My mom used to drive a Monte Carlo... nice family car

Monte Carlo will never be a sports car, it has always been a butt ugly car, it is a but ugly car, and it WILL continue to be a butt ugly car. I think "sports car" should have the term "good lines" written somewhere into the definition, at least a cavalier has that, but stock it doesn't have the other things needed to be defined as a sports car, like power and handling.
I look at the Monte Carlo and I realize there is still plenty of insanity left in GM when they are producing this ugly P.O.C. and not the firebird or trans-am!
A sporty economy car like everyone else said, no where near the same class as a sports car.

I'm 19 with no tickets or wrecks, paying $335/month for insurance on my 2000 z24 in Ontario.. i thought mine was bad.
I pay $290 a month for my 2000 Z24. Same ins class as a Camaro SS or Mustang GT
Anyways, Z24 = Top Model Economy Car
Take A stock Cavalier... Give it power everything with all options, and put a bigger motor in it. = Top Model Economy Car. I would roughly call it a Sport Compact.

Exactly, I know that was the reason with me! LOL
Our cars are no where NEAR a sports car as stated before.
Sports cars: Corvette, GTO, 350Z ect....
MonteCarlo is a sports sedan nowhere near a sports car closer than our J's but its cushy has some power, my mom had one (an SS) didn't really like it, the car was nice leather, heated seats every little option but she traded it for her GTO
