O.k. this makes me sick! Some little snot just got a nice new yellow corvette from
my dealership. All because he just turned 16! I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a
screwdriver! NO ONE ever bought me any car or even helped pay for it. I so can not
stand these damn spoiled little brats that get whatever they want. Whos gonna give
you anything out in the real world. What kind of lesson does this teach your kids other then mom and dad are push overs. My kids are gonna get jobs and earn the money
for it themselves. Sure I may help them pick it out and haggle over price but in the end it will be there car cause they bought it. I think it helps them learn respect for things
as well as teach them that if they want something they need to go out and earn it.
What do you guys think? Yeah it might be nice for mommy and daddy to buy you a shiny new car but what did you do to eran it? And why do you think you deserve it?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a parent buying their kids a new car, regardless of what it is. Now the problem I foresee is that an unexperienced driver, like a 16yr old, does not need a new corvette as a first car.
Anyways, now that he has the car, lets see how responsible he is and how responsible his parents are. But nothing worng with parents buying a kid a new car.
Helping yes. buying them a $45,000 brand new car no. If you do you need your head examined.
O.K. maybe a little $500.00 beater but a new vette? what ever Daddy Warbucks.

I def agree with you. Everyone says oh your just jealous. No...my family also has nice things. My parents made me buy my first car and cause of them i have learned how to save money and i am on way to having a nice career cause i worked hard. I look at my friends and other people i know whos parents gave them anything and everything and they have gone no where.
16 year old in a vette. I think ill stay out of that town. Although i think it teaches kids nothing if you wanna buy them a new car go ahead. A nice safe car. Not a 150mph+ rwd sports car.
I love it when people that they would never buy there kids a $45,000 car, but might get them a $500 POS.
If you are in the postion to easily get your kid a 45k car as soon as they turn 16, having a $500 POS in the driveway will be more of an insult than anything.
Some day when i have kids, depending on my finaical status, if i end up with not a whole lot of money, will defently get my kid there first POS. If i end up making 250k a year, i will defently buy them a civic or something nice like that. If i some how end up making mulit millions, i would have no problem buying them a nice car. Granted that they are respectable.
I plan on being the type of parents that is as trusting and giving as possible, until they screw up, then i'll snag the car keys/ what ever right back.
Promise that forever we will never get better at growing up and learning to lie
^ Exactly, if someone as a parent is in a good financial position, why can't they buy a nice car for their son/daughter who is going to respect the fact he/she has it so easy and will try to keep a good reputaion with his/her parents.
What if he was on the honor role and as a reward his parents bought him that car. Would that make a difference?
At the end, it's just jealousy.
Your just mad because you were poor as a kid... Dont take it out on us because our parents are more qualified to do better paying jobs than yours.

that is pretty uncalled for. you don't know anything about his personal situation, and therefore are yanking this belief from your nether regions. you're grounded from the internet - come back when you can make a well thought out statement rather than that rubbish.
my parents don't have money falling out their ears, but they're comfortable. they purchased both of my main cars for me...the first was intended to be a first car, so they bought a 94 corolla back in 96, used. spent $12k on it, and we drove it as the family car for a couple of years before they handed the keys over.
my second car, a 2001 Corolla(purchased in 03) - they dropped $12k in cash on it, with the intention of getting it back - from me. i paid that off in 8 months PLUS INTEREST.
mind you, they're both college educated. does that mean i'm a spoiled brat? hardly...i'm tickled they put the money down for the second corolla, considering i'd totalled the first one a day or two before. sure, they're just corollas and no $40k+ sports cars, but damn...i wouldn't have HAD a car for awhile(or a job...) if they hadn't picked up the tab for me.
i don't think first-time drivers should have expensive vehicles...simply because there's a VERY STRONG likelihood they're going to get in an accident within the first year of driving.
BEFORE ANYONE JUMPS ON ME, SAYING THEY'VE NEVER HAD ONE, NOTICE THAT I SAID THERE'S A LIKELIHOOD - NOT THAT IT WILL ABSOLUTELY HAPPEN. i can see getting a sedan...used. i can see getting a used coupe. anything that isn't brand new(but is certified used) is ideal for a kid...mostly because they've got relatively up-to-date safety equipment, are likely to last longer than some $500 beater, and are respectable enough to park outside the house. why not? if the parents have the money and want to spend it on the kid, by all means. it just doesn't make sense to buy a car that's going to put the parents in hock for the insurance cost alone.
pirates kick ninja asses, f00
Well, I can say this: a brand new corvette? I'm sorry... that's way too much car with way too much potential for a child to screw up the car, themself and others around them.
If you have means, great, knock yourself out, buy them whatever... but be a LITTLE responsible about it... If you love your kids, you try to protect them as well as spoil them a little.
If I were in a position to do the same thing, they'd get a G6, or something that's nice but not going to get them into trouble... Horsepower and kids don't mix on the freeways.
Transeat In Exemplum: Let this stand as the example.
here is what i say, if you make so much money you can afford to buy your kid a corvette, buy your kid a caddilac, it's still rwd it's still powerful, but he won't die when the caddilac body doesn't wedge in half, which is what would happen to the vette, keep track of the kid, i imagine if you can hear that it happened you'll hear what happens to him... i agree the pos is a good idea to learn, but it's not something a snobby rich ass would like to have in the driveway, and it's not necessarily safer either, so go in between, or go all out in the cadillac direction...
and 45,000 for a vette??? it must be the low end model.....

My Mom never gave me .02 to my cars, nor ever payed .02 of the payment, never got a dime for gas, never got a dime for insurance. Have a problem with your car, tough @!#$, you pay your own money to get it fixed, need an oil change done, better find money to get it done.
You know what though, she raised me to be very independant. She taught to me to do stuff for myself. She taught me how to balance a budget, and how to manage money for things I wanted. She said if you want something you have to work for hard. She wouldnt buy me hardly anything, her thing was, no one is going to buy you anything when your 25, why should I buy you anything now, it doesnt teach you anything when you just sit there and buy this and that for your kid.
Those lessons didnt just go away the day I moved out. I dont have any credit card debt, the only debt I have is my car payment, even though I'm ahead with the payments. I owe less than $9000 on my 04 Cavailer already.
These parents that brought their 16 year old a Corvette. Dont worry you will hear about him again. He will most likely hit a tree or another car while doing 130mph in his car showing off to his buddies.
If I have kids and when they turn 16, they might and a big might depending on how they act. Get a grand or so to buy a first car but thats its, insurance, gas that isnt going to be my problem.
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
Allof the cars i've owned (2) hacve been mine, lock, stock, and barrel. I don't think a parent should buy a kid a car, and moreso, i wouldn't want a car when i'm 16 for the sole reason that in Washington State you can't legally own it until you're 18--which means that your parents can hold it over your head, and thus they can do some things that reek of bastardry, like call it in stolen if they get in a spatr with you, or sell it, despite you saving your money up for it.
as such, i say save until you're 18, and buy your own. it will mean that much more to you.

Took the words right out of my mouth...my parents have been the same way and will continue to be like that. And I will treat my kids the same.
For example, today my car is in the shop getting new brakes and some other things...its gonna cost about $300...only thing my parents are doing for me is take me too and from work and to and from the shop...Im gratiful enough that they are doing that.
Point being is that I am 22 years old, I have had 3 cars and have never recieved a penny for the cars, insurance, gas, or maintainence. My car=my problem.
And I wouldn't have it any other way...in fact I was telling someone the other day, my first car was a death trap and I couldnt wait to get rid of it, but my second car i had for 3 years and paid it off and whatnot, it was so hard emotionally to give up that car because it was the first thing that I hard worked so hard for.
Robo please don't try to judge my parents here O.k. I realy do not want to turn this into a fight. But if you must know my father was retired Navy that worked for the Balto. city
police for almost 20 years before some junky messed up his knee in an arest gone bad. He died in 1992 from a lot and horrible battle with cancer. My mother worked as
head of accounting for Davis instruments manufacturing company. A department of defence company. We were not poor as you put it, but thanks ever so much for showing us all what a giant ass you are. Please the next time you decide to post something about someones parents whom you've never met or never even knew do
us all a favor and don't. You don't see me of accuseing your parents of do anything illegal to buy you your nice shinny new car did I? I don't remember saying your dad sold crack and your mom was a ho and stood out on the street corner to get extra money so they could afford your car so shut up.
Sorry every one else I had to take care of that some people are just asses thats all.
Anyway I can see a nice little car like a Civic or a "J" body
well o.k. I'd rather see
a "J" body then a civic. But at least most of you under stand where I'm coming from.
His is the 5th vette or so thats been sold to a kid in the 3 years I've been here. And guess what every single ones been wrecked within 6 months time.
Rob thanks man thats exactly what i'm talking about. I have a house, 2 cars, 2 kids,
money in the bank, and if I want something i save and buy it. I have no creit card debt
no out standing bills, my 2 year old cav is paid for and so is my wifes van. I was
taught all this by haveing to do things for myself and to stand on my own two feet.
If my father were alive today i'd shake his hand for teaching me this. At the time when I was 16 I was madder then hell at him but now that I'm older and realize I didn't know half as much as I thought I did I can see what he taught me was very important.
And I intend to teach my daughters in the same way.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Jack, if someone gets in your craw about something, you don't have to get back into theirs just for the "fu*k you." There are better ways to let someone that's a giant ass know they're a giant ass than telling them they're a giant ass.
Transeat In Exemplum: Let this stand as the example.
my mom bought my brother 3 cars and he wrecked them all, I bough my first car and it never got wrecked. dont know if that means anything, some people just dont have respect for things they dont work hard for.
Every car I've had I've paid for myself. Started off with an old beater that I saved up for that I loved to death because it was my sweat that paid for it. The next one was an Alero that my ex-wife got drunk and wrecked while I was overseas. Now I have my 05 cavy. Every Vehicle I have made every payment on myself. Granted had to have a cosigner starting out but every dime on it has been mine. Not saying my parents haven't helped me on my vehicles, take now for example I'm overseas and ran out of checks to pay me insurance, thought i left enough but I didn't oops on my part, so they picked up a month for me til my checks get there and I pay it back.
But to buy a brand new Corvette for a 16 year old is just plain retarded!! I remember what we did when I was 16......not the smartest things let me tell ya. I agree with Mysterio if you want to spoil the kid get him a caddy or something, maybe a Lexus something that he is less likely to kill himself in.
When my daughter turns 16 the only car she's getting is one she buys, call me what you want but I've worked my butt off to get what I have and who am I to deny my kid the feeling of earning your car? I mean put a scratch in a kids beater that they paid for themselves and watch how mad they get. The car means a lot to them. Then scratch a car that mommy and daddy paid for, kid gets mad but who cares most of the time mommy and daddy will fix it.
If you wanna buy a kid a car fine, but don't be stupid about it.

Gam you do know I hate it when your right!
(Jackalope goes away and hits and kicks a wall)
I appoligize I shouldn't have let that bother me but since my father is past away and my mom just had surgury on monday and she almost lost her eye on the operating table I'm sure you could see how I might get a little pissed at someone who tells me I had bad parents.
I have asked this question to each of my customers that have come in since he got his new Vette and every single one has said the same thing.... "no way" I had one lady
who owns 3 Caddy's, 1 Deville, 1Seville STS, and an Escalade. she said the same thing I did. She said she had to work for and earn everything she has, and that she will not spoil her 3 sons by buying them a car. If they want one they have to buy it themselves that this is the only way they learn to take care of themselves.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
to buy your kid a brand new corvette, is well, stupid.....hes probably gonnna kill himself
to buy your kid a brand new cavalier, not to bad of an idea, its something to drive
now i bought my car, and have saved enough now and im looking to buy another one, but then again my rents help me out w/ insurance until i move out soooo....
Yes but YOU bought it! Congrates on becomeing an adult, Welcome.
And I still think maybe a used cav first. specialy if moms buying.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
Don't get mad at someone else. Who care i don't care. I didn't buy my first car till i was 24. I always used or borrowed cars. In college i didn't have the money so i would rent cars when i need to which was cheaper on a whole.
If someone's parents wants to buy them a car that is cool with me. I am not going to get bent over that. If you parents have the money $50,000 is like $500 to us. I know some people that $50,000 is their semi annual bonus. If i had the money i would want help my kids out. I may not buy them a corvette at 16 but i would most likely get them somthing like a corolla
I don't get jealous of other people. Don't let it bother you.

why hate on someone cause their parents bought em a car.... they arent flaunting it and trying to belittle you... why do it to them...
thats just my view on it...
some parents give presents for their kids birthdays, others dont, even when they are kids...
doesnt matter what the cost of it is, if they can afford it then so be it...
think of it this way.....
in low income areas, a girl might get a barbie doll, or a boy might get a gi joe and some clothes for christmas......
in more well off areas, kids get clothes, a playstation 2 or psp, and maybe some high end clothes....
the only difference really is one set of parents can afford it. if your parents cant, then dont be jealous. theres alot of people who get cars when they go to college, but put good use to it and also help out others and dont let it get to their head.
if you were rich you would do it too
