how to easily restore your headlights
Use the meguiers headlight restore kit I did mine...
any one try the 3m one or the as seen on tv one?
I used the 3m one on my buddy's headlights. It was amazing. Basically you tape off your paint and put the different sandpapers and stuff on the sanding disk. You sand with 500 grit, 800 grit, then wetsand with 3000 and finish it off with some rubbing compound on a foam buffing pad. I'm a believer in the 3m kit. It took off all of the haze and oxidation and we sanded out the dimples and chips from rocks and crap too.
I tried the 3M kit on my 04 cavy.
It worked, until the car sat in the sun. The lights end up going hazy on the outside of the lens (not the inside), and wax only works for a short period of time. (until the sun hits it again)
I was informed by a GM Tech that the headlights on the 3rd gens have a UV protectant in the plastic. By using the 3M kit and sanding, you are essentially taking off the UV protectant. When the sun hits the lens, it damages the plastic.
I have no idea why the UV protectant isn't throughout the entire lens, because it seems that it's just a coating on the outside.
