Radical changes

Hello, I am currently undergoing some pretty radical changes with my car. I am currently sporting a 98 sunfire coupe with a 2200, thats teal blue sitting on black mags.

My plan is to throw a 96-99 cav front end on, remove the spoiler all together, and primar it a nice satin or flat black, then clear coat until I can afford paint.

So, I bought a hand sander, is it safest to use this or is it too risky of oversanding? If I need to do it by hand, what grate sandpaper do I need?

Also, what primer/clear coat do you guys recommend thats the best for the cost?

and again- if anyone knows of anyone who wants to swap front ends or sell their cav front ends, PM me.. I can drive decent distances.

Area code 62821

Lets see some pictures! I like the idea of going with a cavy front end.

also satin black is the easiest to do IMO, thts what mine is and I didnt like the way mine looked with a shaved spoiler...the nice part was that the trunk came up on its own lol

If anyone can use the search function on cardomain/j-body well enough I had pictures when it was first bought. I went by the same username, but the car was the "Dreamfire" ...I know lame..

Either way I can get new pictures up soon, but does anyone have advice on the original question about sanding?

And satin black, do you recommend any specific brands? Also, after I prime it satin black- whats the best clearcoat I should use for a daily driver thats only gonna get painted within a yr or 2.

when i did mine i sanded it by hand with 1500 wet sand, then primered it and used 2000 grit wet sanding, then i sprayed the satin black and wet sanded it with 2000 grit again, i still have to clear it though

I'll take your advice then, everyone has told me wet sanding was the way to go.

So wet sand with 1500, primer it, wet sand with 2000, then spray bomb satin black on, let it dry then wet sand with 1500 again, then clear?

i would use 2000 on the satin as well, then spray a light coat of satin over the already sanded black to get rid of any sanding lines and marks. then i would clear and sand it with 2000 as well and finish it with a good buff. The College Paint Job and pics thread is mine and how i spray bombed it
