I have a 2001 Cavalier and love it have had it for a little over 2 years but, one thing that has been bothering me lately is the paint on the trunk is starting to come of and I was wonder what you guys think is the best way to take care of it. I can take some pictures if you want to see what I'm talking about. (BTW I'm not actually a noob I just forgot my old password and had to delete my e-mail account so couldn't get it back lol)
Ummm.. get it painted

Is it possible to do yourself, yes with the right tools. But the chance of it being a decent job is slim. Painting isn't really something that can be picked up just from reading. It's all about practice and precision with your settings/tools.
To be quite honest, it's probably more cost/time effective to take it somewhere to get painted. Especially being the color black(assuming here based on your profile). If you don't already have an HVLP gun, DA, buffer, compressor, paint/reducer/clear/hardener, you'd end up paying way more for just those things to start the process than the cost of having someone else deal with it.
In the end it's really upto you, as we don't know your previous experience with painting, HVLP guns, etc.
just my $0.02
Thank you very much for the helpful anwsers I will look into getting it repainted.
