So i am tired of the long stock antenna that I have and I often take it off as a relief to the eyes... haha but then I don't get crap for signal (thank god for ipod)
my question is, do alot of you use the shorter antenna's? I'd like to see some pics if you wanna post.
thanks!

I cut my stock one. No pics at the moment. Just hacked it off at the top of the base, ground off any sharp edges and put it back on.

walmart special rubber shorty antenna
works fine, didn't notice any difference from stock. and its like 13 bucks.
Check out my build thread!
I got the 8" one I had on my Sunfires on eBay, but once I received it I discovered it was just a stock one that had been cut down and they put a little black rubber cover on the end (the kind you would get at a hardware store to put on the end of wire shelving). So, save yourself the money and just cut your stock one down and than head to the hardware store to get a little cover for the end of it

I rarely get to post pics, so here's mine, lol. It's the shorty 'vette' antenna from ebay.

I have the same one, no complaints with reception on the odd occasion I'm using to find out about traffic.
hmmm, Idk if I want a "ball" on the end that is soo prominent like the "vette" style... The cheapest way would be just to cut mine. Hack saw do the job? then top it with a rubber like suggested!

Just got bored one day and got at it with the hacksaw. Still get perfectly good reception as well.
I used a hacksaw on mine too, and used the stock ball on the top, I pulled it off with vice grips, and put it back on with loc tite. I had to taper the top after chopping it, but it looked good. I did a rattle can job on it to make it look different.

The ball does not look as nice as the little rubber cover in my opinion. The little rubber cover is more "low profile" which I think looks a lot nicer. Except for buying the little rubber cover it would be free to cut down your stock one, unless you want to save your stock one and get another one from a junkyard which I'm guessing they might not even charge you for. A hacksaw will work fine. It won't take long at all to cut through the antenna.

Mine was the "Corvette one" from eBay as well. Very nice, but like I said, once I got it I discovered it was a waste of money and I could have made one myself for free basically.
I made both of my shorty antennas, it was a PITA but took two sets of vice grips, one to the 'shaft' and one to the 'base':p
Twist and twist until they pop off hahah
On the neon, I cut it down to like 10 inches, then just put it back in, ended up using.. I think superglue to stop it from wiggling around later haha.
On the neon:
Then on the sunfire, did the same thing, vicegrips, than I cut all but about a cm of the shaft off and left the ball, put it into the hole, soldered it into place, sanded the S#!+ out of it, primed, painted, cleared. PITA but I LOVE it

However knowing about how the ebay ones are... that's how my next ones gonna be made
Oh, and in the one of the neon, that was before when I had first cut it... I retapped it to fit, and painted it black later as it had scratches/overspray on it in that pic
I have the ebay vette one as well. No complaints about it at all.
Dont mind the dirt and holes in my trunk and unmatched paint my car is under construction

Just to let you guys know... altho the walmart ones look good at first... one trip in hot weather, and you got a floppy dildo on the back of your car.
those all look goods. I agree with your opinion on the long attennas. I jsut cut mine down with a grinding wheel to around 8 inches i'd say. and painted it glass black.
"A goal without a plan is just a wish"
thank you i was looking for one of those, as yes shave the antenna
I took a hacksaw to my antenna yesterday and cut it down to 10". Then I just took a grinder and "balled" the end smooth. Now I just need to paint it black again to get rid of the shiny tip
I put the other half in a table vice and tried to pull the ball off the end with a pair of pliers, but that thing is on there good! How did you guys remove yours? I like the short length much better. The reception is cut a little bit, but it still comes in decently. I'll post a pic tonight hopefully

i had on it was weird it was about 9 inches but turned into a spring halfway down i just took it off and replaced it with an aluminum one normal length to see if it helped my reception.
