So heres the deal. I love the new GTR door handles so I want some on my car. I called the dealer ship and they want 222.42 per door handle. Sooooooooo I said nevermind. Then I got a good idea. Why not make my own?
Well I did some research and found a material called MB3000. Its a tooling board to make models or for any kind of sculpting. It is also pretty damn strong for what it is. So I have been working on it today making the new door handles.
So I received two 8 1/4" x 8 1/8" blocks of MB3000 from BCC Products.
I have to say I already love this material. It's strong as hell and it cuts really easy. I soaked a small piece in water and saw no sign of wear, it didn't soak it up, and it stayed the same. Sanding is easy, files work really good on it as well.
But on to the progress I have made... So far I have cut 1 block in half and started shaping the handles.
Just taking a break right now. Had to come inside and make a template in photoshop. But anyways I'm off to do some more work. I will post pics later.
Look here for a good view of what I am after.

please keep this post updated. i have seen something simerler to this before... and was very intrigued.... i am not subscribed to this post....if and when these end up working out... how much would you charge for a set of just the handles?
I'll update it more tomorrow. But I am not 100% sure if I will want to make more. And the material isn't cheap so it would really depend on how this turns out.

i can understand that......
keep me posted......
Well I didn't get a chance to finish these up but they are close. I have the metal frame fabricated and just working on the mechanism. I spent most of today with my students working on my body kit so didn't spend as much time as I would have liked working on the handles.

i really like the idea. are you gonna put "ridges" like a grip for your fingers on the back side? or keep it blocked off?

i feel that you would have yourself a market here if you were interested. and this would not be a j-body specific part... i bet you could make some $$$ off of this.....
bump for updates!
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
Sorry guys haven't worked on it
I've been fitting my body kit and getting everything else ready for my students to start on the car with sanding and body work. As soon as the kit is fitted I will be back to these.

What exactly do you do for a living? Just wondering since its not in your profile.
I just started working at a skills center for high school students about 2 months ago. I am an instructor in an auto collision class.
