Can Carbon Fiber Go Bad?? need Info

I had a Cavalier Carbon Fiber trunk which was a very rare piece not too many made. Made by a very good manufacturer not ebay crap and was true carbo fiber. Anyways I personally dont like CF so I sold it since it was on one of the cars I bought. The decklid looked good but it had a fade spot on it the previous owner just said re clear it should be good as new. I sold it as is for a cheap price and now the person who bought it said it was junk since the shop told him that when he went to have it re cleared. I dont understand how CF can go bad, fadeing clear makes sence but how can true CF go bad?

Thanks hope that wasnt too confusing.
Chris

I'd tell him to take it to another shop.

Well sunfading can go through the clear, and discolor the fibers themselves.

However, being it was sold das is for a good price, they should have looked at it closely. A lot of light discoloration and minor imperfections can be easily taken care of with wetsanding and reclearing, but if the trunk was exposed to large amounts of sun, and had inferior UV protection, it CAN get ruined.....well astetically at least.

I would get a second or third opinion before jumping to conclusions. Usually if it is "ruined" it is large areas that were overexposed.

I let my hood go without taking care of it.
But, with a lot of work, polish, and alot of rubbing, I got it back to new condition.
The wax/ sealer I'm now using on the car has UV protectant to keep the sun from fading the paint as well as the c/f hood and trunk.
Carbon fiber can be brought back it you take the time to make it so.

Yea, I would have them take it somewhere else...

My buddy's CF hood on his Celica was uber faded and he had it re-cleared and it looks amazing now...

So unless the actual weave was faded, it should be fixable...

sounds like it just needs to be refinished the right way

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Thats a good idea, I never thought about doing that to carbon fiber. I've fixed fadded paint by that process before.
I was given a carbon fiber hood cause it was fadded but i didnt care I just wanted the weight savings for the race car, I'll have to give this a try.
