So i've searched this forum and googled multiple times. I have a 2002 Sunfire coupe 2.2L, and I want to get some smoked tail light covers. I haven't been able to find 02' sunfire tail light covers anywhere. But I did find 02' cavalier tail light covers. Would they fit the same way?
Where are all you guys with your black outs on your tail lights on your sunfires? How did you black them out? Thanks in advance.
Cavalier covers will NOT fit a sunfire coupe.
Pick up some VHT Niteshade and tint your tail lights yourself. It's pretty much your only option.

SO EVERYTHING!
Where can I get some VHT Niteshade at? Autozone? or somewhere online. Thanks man.
How does VHT Niteshade work? Can i spray it on a cover, so that i can remove it if i need to. Heavy state patrol around here.
If state patrol gets on you about it, hope to god you're really good with paint thinner.
A love that work man, I pm'd you. Tell me how.
at night, unless the cop really notices it when you get pulled over for something else they wont pull you over for the nightshaded tails, because frankly... unless they are riding your ASS they cannot tell they are tinted because the lense light goes right through.
so basically, its a 50/50 shot. if you dont go extremely dark a lot of cops will not care, ive been pulled over several times since i did my tails (dark as hell btw) and not one time did any of them mention a thing about them.
and if they have a big problem with it, show them how it works, explain to them that the light has no issue coming through.
U could check autoventshade(avs) or GTO covers they are sold at pepboys/ auto zone/ and advanced auto stores or get the website and direct order them. dark and if u do get pulled over wopping 8secs or less to remove them(resulting in possible warning not tix).
Thanks for the input guys, I think I have found a solution though, and Im going to try it out soon after I order them.
There are vinyl sheet rools on ebay, but there are two different types. There is
Light Smoke, and
Dark Smoke. (dont pay attention to the size of the sheets, Ill have to go measure my tail lights for width and length and order double that for both lights)
I believe in that picture posted by Chazz that, that is light smoke. And I think I want to go darker. Anybody have pictures of how dark the dark is. You can get a little bit of an example from ebay pictures, but they're not the best. Also I'm going to apply this to my rear side markers, and 3rd brake light. Up front im getting clear turn signals and clear side markers, itll be all clear, but thats down the road a little, take in mind im 17 with a low ass paying job.
That would be the dark smoke, The Light Smoke is almost transparent.
Wow, thanks so the dark isn't even all that dark then. Thanks bud. I'll let you guys know when I apply it and take some pics.

they arent 'GTO' they are 'GTS', it stands for gt styling. the S in the sticker just looks like a O.
and on the decal tint, no thanks. ill stick with the nightshades. that just seems cheesy as hell IMO.

GTS covers are crap in plain english. I had a set on my Cav for less than 24 hours and one flew off on the highway. I found it the next day. in pieces. But they honestly looked like S#% anyway, so not a big loss. So tint or painting them is the best way to go!

Its not a "decal" I use Z yaaaa. Its a "film" of sort and I use a very similar process as I do when I tint windows.
Not talking crap, but you cant remove Nightshades and It dosnt keep a gloss look and it isnt perfectly even over the lens . What I use is very glossy, Fully reversible, and perfectly even. The only thing about it is the fact it takes patience and skill to install correctly.
Is it all that hard to do as a DIY project though? Cause I don't have the time or money to send them to you or anything. Plus its a daily driver.
takes about 10 minutes to paint and 30 minutes to dry and put them back on yourself make sure you take them off the car first its easier i've done my 03 taillights looks great VHT is about 8.00 a can and it is spray bomb
If your not experienced with heatshrinking its really not a do it yourself deal. The Cavs arnt too bad but the Fires(both styles) are pretty rough.
98zragtop - i completely agree the GTS covers for the 95-99 years are junk, ive had a set of AVS's and GTS's, the AVS's were much better. they actually clipped on over the headlight lens and stayed on perfectly. i sold the GTS's a week after i got them because they sucked so badly. which really is odd because most of the time GTS is the best quality. ive got GTS tail light covers on my 97z and they are AMAZING quality, i could not have been happier with them as a purchase.

you must not realize nightshades is spray paint? VERY removable if needed. carb spray, laquor cleaner, graffiti remover. take your pick.
yeah, doesnt keep a gloss look if you dont take the time to maintain them with wax-which most people dont because they are lazy. easy problem solver- CLEAR THEM, i used spray bomb clear on mine, they have no trouble keeping a gloss ESPECIALLY when i keep them waxed. a couple buddies of mine went even further then that and had them professionally automotive paint cleared and they look FLAWLESS.
isnt perfectly even? man i think you've seen too many ricer nightshade jobs because mine and every other one ive ever seen has came out mint.
now, im not knocking your tint stuff, to me it seems cheesy. but thats just me so dont take it personally. ive had awesome luck with nightshades and have seen what it can look like when done correctly, i am a FIRM believer in nightshades > everything else.

I've done it all with my Sunfire tails...tint, perferated vinyl and Nightshade. The tint worked very well but I would suggest sanding down the tails first to remove the raised code numbers (this takes a little time and a few different grit levels of paper). If done well looks good but like z yaaaa said, I found it, and so did my car buddies, a little cheezie, not a as cheezie as the vinyl I had on first (what was I thinking). Eventually I went to the Nightshade and was able to customize it the way I wanted. What I mean is I was able to tint out parts and leave other area's factory. I came up with a pattern that I liked and masked things off and sprayed away. Once done I cleared it and poof looked great and continues to look good after 3 years. Each to his own, but I would say go with the Nightshade - looks better, not cheezie in my opinion, you can do it yourself and if you want you have options as to design and darkness.
is nightshade only removable by like paint thinner? and is it possible to put a clear vinyl of some sort on and spray nightshade on it? what materials can nightshade be put on..thanks guys, i appreciate all the feedback.
I haven't personally seen any Sunfire's with niteshades, but I know a guy that did his focus and comparing the two, I much prefer the "film" method that Chazz does. IMO the film looks "cleaner" and give a much more even "glow"
Verocity, why would you put clear over the tail then nightshades rather than just The Tinted Film I use? lol
If your that worried about it I can just sell you the film if you want to try and do it yourself. Just a warning, its NOT peel and stick.
