Hey guys, I have a lot of rock chips on my car and I just used a paint pen (duplicolor) to paint in all the chips. I am just wonering if it is safe and advisable to wet sand the spots where I touched up so I can flatten out the surface and clean it up.
Please make sure if you do this, you get the proper buffing tools and don't use under 1500 grit.... Don't make my mistake. My car looks like hell now until I get a better buffer
How good of a buffer are we talking about? I got one from Canadian Tire which is a 8" random orbit.
NOT AN ORBITAL.
You need one of these, & be careful not to burn the paint.
I used one similar to this when I used to professionally detail.
On second thought, you may just want to take it to a detail shop & have it done.
Especially if you are not experienced with this type of work...

Yeah I am thinking about it...rather not screw up
I am sure I could give it a shot, but yeah I don't have a clue what I am doing. I use the mothers 3 phase system with my orbital, I don't even know if that would work with a buffer.
Not like its the whole car that needs work, just the hood where the chips are. So once I touch up the paint and clear I should be able to take it in and have them wet sand it smooth and buff it?
hopefully, however that could cost you alot of money, around here its $80 an hour. I would just leave it for that price, or make friends with an autobody worker.
Already am friends with an auto body worker but its impossible to get him to do any work for me lol
