heres a question.. how do you go about getting a new windshield, removing/replacing one?
Just take it to a local shop, should only be around $80 and 15 min install
i had to have mine replaced once.....and it was like $400. good thing i had a $100 deductible on the insurance
I had to replace my 04 cav's windshield. Stress crack formed about 2 years ago while it was still under the bumper to bumper warranty. I paid nothing out of pocket, but the bill they handed me before I left was showing just under $350. Thank god for warranty work!
Conversely, we've swapped windshields out of my friends 1996 200sx back in 2002. The windshield itself was pretty cheap, around $40 and the gasket kit was pushing $100. Using a couple of old guitar strings between sticks [for handles] we cut the original seal all the way around, then it was just a matter of removing what was left of the old seal and replacing with the new parts. It was a pretty good day's job for us as my friend got impatient and decided to kick out the rest of the windshield [couldn't work the strings across the bottom because they broke] so the time was spent cleaning up his stupidity really :p I would recommend getting it done professionally though, because if there's a leak, there's someone to blame, who SHOULD fix the problem without charge.
There are 2 methods.
First:
1) sit in drivers seat, have friend sit in passenger seat.
2) place both feet on windshield.
3) yell "PUSH!!", then follow your own orders.
4) remove all reminants of remaining windshield
5) remove old gasket/adhesive from area
6) place new stuff down
7) put new windshield on adhesive gasket
8) leave alone for about 1 day
9) drive, and hope you did it right.
Second:
1) open phone book
2) find Auto Glass place
3) call
4) drink large amounts of beer
I prefer the second method....how about you?
I like the second method myself!
i paid 300 for my new windshield ...
all i do is install windsheilds. i dont see how it would be possible to do on your own. usually costs about $300 where i work for cavaliers/sunfires. just take it to a shop and have it done right. if its not done right it can seriously be fatal.
cost me like $180 to get mine replaced....and they came to my house
