mounting 'yota side markers?
Saturday, August 25, 2007 7:25 AM
Ok I just got some side markers and i was not aware that I was going to have to make a big square hole, every other side marker I have seen is just held on by screws then you just have to drill a big hole for the socket to go in. What has anyone else done to make this hole, a dremel with a little cutting wheel? Other suggestions are welcome.

And before anyone says it I know that the toyota fenders already have the hole in them but i don't want nor do I plan on getting the fenders because there is nothing wrong with my fenders. This way its costing me $30 to have the lights it would be considerably more to get the fenders.

So thanks!

wel if you had toyota fenders the lights would sit in nicely....hence why they are designed for it.....i guess you are going to have to cut away the space

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Thanks you for stating the obvious, I realize i am going to have to cut out the space and I know that the toyota fenders are designed for the lights but I AM NEVER GOING TO GET THE FENDERS I JUST WANT THE LIGHTS, as I said above.

I know that there are other people on here that have put the markers on stock usdm fenders, I am just wondering what they used to cut the hole.

Again I know that they will mount right onto the toyota fenders but the toyota fenders are at least a couple hundred bucks plus paint, and there is nothing wrong with my fenders and the lights only cost $30, so i am doing it this way.

Thanks!

I'd recommend measuring 3 or 4 times, then drilling a small hole, then slowly making it bigger until you get it big enough for the marker...if you run out of drill bits, then you can probably use a dremel to cut away abit more...

If you need something to go off of just check out a saab somewhere, remove the side marker and then theres your template for the hole you need. Just remember on the saab's the markers go in the opposite direction that the toyota cavaliers do. Hope that helps!

Thats a good idea except I need to make a rectangular hole, not a circle.

Looking at Saab also a good idea but I don't know of anyone that has one and I think if I just tore off on in aparking lot I may get into some trouble.

I think I am going to figure out the size of the square I need to make, tape off the area then use a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut the hole smaller because I can always make it bigger but its alot of work to make it smaller.

Thanks!

i have toyota fenders sitting in my attic, ill pop the light off and take a pic for you if i can get a chance today. i would use a drill bit and a dremel to cut out whats needed.

Well then drill the hole, measure out how far you need the edges, and then cut away with your dremel....gosh, do I have to think of everything??

x 2....

stop being a cheap ass and buy the damn fenders... screw just adding lights..... the whole purpose of the fenders is the fact that they are wider....

^^Where did you get youre sidemarkers from?

I cant find them, and GM doesnt show a pic, so Im not sure what exactly theyre selling, and the price was over $100... hard to swallow for sidemarkers, unless it was the fenders I was looking at.

Anywho, let me know what you do, take some pics if you can, Id like to get an idea what this would be to install, Im sure its not hard at all. I just LOVE preliminary knowledge, know?

i just popped the light out of my toyota fender and the whoile looks like this

1.75" .25"
_____________
I I_
I _ I .875"
I____________ I

I know its @!#$ty but hey i didnt feel like taking a pic. anyway its pretty much a rectangle with a little tab cut out. the little tab cut out is closest to the door (i took apart my drivers side fender since it was off the car) anyway the rectangle is .875" tall and 1.75" long. the little tab is centered on the rectangle and is .188" tall and .25" wide.

i hope this help and i hope it was ok to understand.
