Hello. I'm about to get a 2000 Cavalier week after next and I was wondering if anyone could give me the dementions of the door handles, the dip under them, and the lock positions. I want to try to put a new set of handles on my car and I want to start planing before I get it. I'll be sure to post pics after I get the car and modify it. also, if anyone has it, the length of the rods inside that pull the door open/lock it. Thank you Very much
(Off Topic: This has to be the best site I've ever seen for people like me!)
Thats pretty interesting I've never seen someone change instead of shave their handles, what do you plan on doing to them to make them look different?
There was somebody that did it before. Search and the post is somewhere out there, lol. I cant remember which ones they used but they were flush to the body.

I plan on putting some completely new Door handles on it, from a completely diffrent brand of car. I know it's going to take a lot of fabrication and cutting but I think after I get through it will be really nice. I don't think this has ever been done before. I just have to thank my friend for getting a car they're from and implanting that Idea. They'll also be painted the same color as the car
Here are the Handles:
I was thinking about Alero handles, myself...look to be about the same size, but smooth and painted...

please tell me that those handles don't belong to Honda...
i think the other handles used on here were dodge neons because they were flush with the body. less fabrication and clean i guess

5 seconds to find another street...
forgot who, but someone did a how-to with neon handles if i recall correctly. or maybe it was aleros. but i believe they were minus the key hole. maybe the alero rears or neon rears.
I think it was Grand Prix handles, they left a gap in the front, and he couldnt quite get the lock rod to get all the way to the lock cylinder...
Im thinking of a different guy then, cause the handles were either from a Grand Am or Grand Prix...
Those other handles look nice but the side-ways lever just gives the door a really cool feel. If possible I'm gonna crimp and fill the metal around it to make it flush with the body. and Yes, it is from a Honda. Why does that matter?

this is the one i remember hearing about

ya, the one i remember wasnt lenko
DaFlyinSkwirl, and its Grand Prix/Malibu handles...
I did it with 94 Dodge Colt 4 dor rear handles, left the lock where it was. I should have shaved the passenger side lock, and done the lock in the handle on the driver's side, but I digress.... that was my white convertible, which is now owned by Patrick...
I grabbed a set of Malibu/Grand Am/Grand Prix/Impala (they're all the same) handles, and was going to do them on the red 'vert, but I ran outta time before I had to get it painted... so they're not going on now. But they're painted to match
ah well... don't want two door locks on the driver's side!!
I've seen the Honda before on someone's J... can't remember who. They fit pretty good as well.
The Neon's would work... they're a bit bigger than the J-body... 8" long and 3.5" high (my girlfriend has a 03 SX 2.0 ha ha) but they'r recessed into the door more.... so they'd stick out pretty far if you tried to mount them to the J-body door instead of cutting the metal out and welding it in place.

Thanks. I can't believe someone actually put those on there O_o. oh well, I'll still have a very unique look, even if I'm not he first to do it. I can't wait to get my Cavalier and start working! (also, anyone who's been experienced getting titles restored on rebuilt cars please PM me)
